I tossed up five more items last night a few really nice things at $40 to $50 each (which in my line is on the higher end).

I woke up this moring and saw an email with Order #1063xxx, and was so excited to see in the email that is was one of my newer listed items that had just sold. I thought wow, Google must have been really quick with that one.

Then I answered the email to let buyer know that I would roll out the red carpet for them and really get that item out once they pay.

The hotmail.com address bounched back, and then I saw the name of buyer, it was a bogus name in all lower case. Impossible to be a real name.

Oh well. I guess that just happens a lot when anyone can place an order with no background or history.

I've had it happen only a couple times on eCrater. I hear other sellers say they have a couple a week!

IT happens to almost everyone once in a great while. I get one about every 3-4 months

I am getting plenty of hits to my items according to the counter next to each product. But I am not seeing any buys yet.

I see more hits than I even get at ebay for these items. Is this a sign that EC has rigged the counters? Or does EC just have more people browsing, less spending?

See, I am not doing any real promotion just yet, and I am keeping an eye on the product hits.

I just find it odd so many folks would want to look at my stuff, and so few would buy anything. Generally interest + hits = sales, at least when your prices are fine.

I sure hope this is not a bust after all the work involved in hundreds of items, all with fresh descriptions and original photsos/scans.

quicksrt Have you installed Google Analytics? That's a really nice way to track your hits. My sales have been waaaaaaaaaaaaay down at eCrater starting back in May, June isn't looking much better. My traffic has dropped by probably 50% and with that goes the number of sales you make.

I hope sales pick up soon...sales are still happening for me, just not at eCrater. :( I am a professed eCrater cheerleader LOL, but when sales dropped off to nothing...it's hard to shake the pompoms!

Yeah Hotnana,

I read all about Ecrater blaming Google's new way of doing search and all that. And others like you saying it's just summer down time.

I honestly don't care about hits and traffic as much as sales. But I guess it can't hurt to know where you business is coming from or where is it not coming from.

I will check that out.

Do you think EC has bitten the dust just as I arrived? Is it possible things have changed, and that this is the new reality for that venue?

Google made some major changes to their search Algorithm- it's been called May Day because of the apparent adverse affects it is having on sellers. As it appears large retailers are now getting more exposure than marketplaces. This makes perfect sense, I'm sure they are paying out the wazoo for better exposure. But to us as sellers it means we aren't getting the exposure we once had.

Do I think eCrater has bit the dust...Lord I hope not!
I love eCrater and will go down with the ship if necessary. No way will eCrater fall off the map, it's a very successful venue. I think things will level off (hopefully) soon and sales will pick up for everyone. Summer is always slow doesn't matter where you sell at...even eBay drops off.

As an Ecrater store, I am not hoping for too much exposure. It is my items I am hoping get the exposure. I am offering out of print LPs and CDs that are not commonly found elsewhere. In fact, when you find many of my titles on Amazon, the listing is there, but it says "currently not available" or in some cases, there is a seller with one, but they are asking 79.00 to 125.00 or some crazy price like that. They are asking that kind of money because nobody else has one being offered, and nobody at ebay has the title.

So if the title is not being offered elsewhere, I should get first placement, or second at very worst.

I know things are bad when I am the only one offering it, and still do not come up in Google searchs. I have not found that to be the case as of yet. And once I get the sale, I can then send the buyer the store link in the event they did not bother clicking to see what else I have when they got that one EC item listing.

That is one of the not so wonderful things, EC items do not take buyer to your fab store, they act like it is a single item you are selling.

For some reason, I thought eCrater had some kind of special relationship with Google or maybe an agreement of some sort. Now I don't think that's so. From all the comments I've read, eCrater isn't being treated any better than anyone else. eCrater sellers are not getting good placement in the search results and that might really hurt them. I don't know how eCrater makes its money but, if the sellers start to fade-away, eCrater may be in trouble.

Well Google did announce a while back about them partnering with Etsy and EC. Whoop-t-doo!

While eCrater is a free venue, they are making money off of ads and such. According to WebsiteOutlook they are bringing in around 34K a month.
Still a wonderful venue that I'm sure won't be going down any time soon.

They may make a little money off of Google Ads, but can you imagine how much it costs to run a site like ecrater? With over 3 million listings and 10-20,000 stores, many people to help program and run the site. It all comes out of 1 persons pocket. If their actually making 34k off of Google ads, its a very small drop in the bucket to help them out..

I honestly think that it is fairly cheap to run a site like that after the design and backend costs are paid. Sever space is almost all it takes once it is set up and running. We as sellers are doing all the work putting date and pictures in.

But you just know that once it takes off, if it ever does, they will tack on the monthly fee. Hopefull that monthly fee will either be very low, or discounted for anyone there a year or more. I have noticed that on the internet, most things that start off free do not remain free. There are a very few exceptions.

A little money? How about 400,000+ a year! Wish I made that a year! Hey they own the site and put the time in to keep it up and work hard for the sellers for certain.

I am a little disturbed about the latest changes they've made. When a potential customer clicks on one of your items through a search Google, Yahoo etc...other sellers items are displayed now at the bottom rather than a mix of your related items. I'm confused as to what advantage this is to us as sellers. I work hard to get good exposure, utilize Google attributes to the fullest and keep up with popular keywords for the items I sell. I put great effort into my presentation and such only to have a bunch of shotty looking ads at the bottom of my page! If a customer clicks on another ad, of course they don't even realize they have been taken away from the original item (store) that drew them in. This is a Very Bad move on eCraters part.

All these sellers, putting the blame on a site. What, as a seller, have YOU done, to get YOUR items sold?
