Amazon.com announced new requirements for retailers using its Product Ads advertising program. Amazon said product ads must include images by June 17, 2010, or it would no longer display them in targeted placements. The company said Product Ad listings with images receive 8.5 times the click-through rate of listings without images, and it advised advertisers to include image URLs in product feeds to ensure maximum click-through rate for their ads.
Amazon's Product Ads appear contextually in search and browse results pages and on related product Detail Pages and link directly to the advertiser's own website. Adding a high-quality image to a product's detail page can increase page views by 60 percent and product orders by 25 percent, according to the company.
Amazon also announced two additional changes to Product Ads image guidelines:
