Online retailers reported they were unable to log in to their Google Checkout accounts on Thursday for a period lasting between 4 - 6 hours. They were unable to fulfill orders during the outage, and it appears the problem also impacted some customers' ability to make purchases using the payment service.
There was surprisingly little written about the outage, and as one user tweeted, "Google Checkout's merchant login has been down for about an hour. Internet seems to barely notice."
But those who were affected were frustrated at the lack of communication from Google. In responding to another merchant on the Google help boards, a user wrote, "Same here - all day - no way in. This is when having a PHONE NUMBER to call Google Checkout would be nice!"
A Google spokesperson did not respond to AuctionBytes' inquiry about the outage by press time.
