Amazon have launched an online grocery store in the UK it’s still in beta but is stocked with everything from Beer, to Sausages and crisps.
Products purchased from Amazon Grocery will benefit from the same shipping options (including free delivery) as the rest of Amazon, although some items will be shipped directly from suppliers.
Amazon already have a range of 22,000 products up for sale from the likes of Pampers, Ariel, Uncle Ben’s, Dolmio, Kraft, Schwartz, Kenco, Carte Noir, Walkers, and Oreo. I’m left slightly disappointed that they don’t appear to sell Marmite and that some of the brands and categories appear weighted towards US tastes rather than leading UK brands and products.
It’s not going to rival the likes of Tesco, Sainsbury and Ocado just yet, but it could well do if it’s successful. Could we one day be popping down to our local Amazon corner shop for our bread and milk? It’s a possibility.
