A Howard man lost $9,000 in a “sophisticated” scam on eBay, state police said Wednesday.
Police say vehicles are advertised on popular sites that link to fake eBay pages. Those pages purport to guarantee that eBay will hold the money until the buyer gets the vehicle and is satisfied — a real program offered through eBay.
However, police say, this is completely fake. The scammer is giving a bank account number for a wire transfer and takes the money without delivering a car.
The scammer then stops all communication and deletes the account.

Not really an ebay scam since it never occurs on ebay.
Buyer used a link on a car site that went to a fake ebay site.
So really, it's a scam on the "popular (and unnamed) site" that was advertising the vehicle. |
