PayPal said it would discontinue its plug-in for web browsers as of September 22, 2010, after two years of supporting it. The company said it felt it "wasn't providing the best experience for those who used it."
PayPal receipts will no longer be available in the plug-in after September 22, 2010, and users with recurring billing linked to the PayPal plug-in will have to provide merchants with a different payment method to avoid a lapse in service.
In related news, PayPal is now offering its security key in a card format, though the fob version still works.
