Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if it is allowed to have your URL watermarking all your images on your listings (as long as they do not link to anywhere which they do not). Is this legal as far as ebay's rules go? Thanks! |

From personal experience...no, you cannot put a URL on an image.
I had 300+ listing shut down for exactly that reason - a small copyright on every image of my company name, which is also a URL. |

Stockmiser, Even if you put "XYZ.com" on the image with no link? Thanks. |

| So really it is the ".com" they are up set about. My company name of "XYZ" would be fine as a watermark but "XYZ.com" is illegal in the ebay rules? Just need to clarify this. The rules they have are so many and hard to find in the first place. Thanks for your advice. |

Yep, it's the .com that is an issue. Before removing my listings, I got a call from powerseller support to explain what they were doing. They cited me on a few things - the small URL text on several graphics (not clickable, just a graphbic image of the text), and a virtually invisible copyright notice at the bottom of each of my listings that contained my company name (which was a URL) - also not clickable.
To be even more specific, they said that even if the text was not an explicit URL - for example, if I edited it to say mycompanydotcom, they said they would see that as "circumvention" of the rules, and it would still not be allowed. I could only put "mycompany".
But I did discover one instance where I could put my url - in my email address, which I could put in the listings. My support rep, however, didn't suggest it since he said that I thought it would eventually be excluded. |
