Sellers at EC need to be aware that Alaska and Hawaii are now included in the US shipping rates in your stores. This is fine if you are already set up this way, but if you aren't you might want to fix it quick!

I sell lots of heavy items that are shipped FedEx. I just compared an item I shipped this past week to Cally to what it would cost to ship to Alaska. Cally was $11 and Alaska was almost $41!! OUCH!

I just wanted to add this...if you are not already set up to ship to Alaska and Hawaii, those customers will now receive Free Shipping!

hotnana, thanks for the info.

I saw it, but I believe was some error in the page. Anyway in my case I have a standard prices for all 50 states & US Territories because I use USPS and if very rare get a customer from zone 6 (Florida in my case). And eCrater for combine items it just add all the S&H cost so it just refund any extra paid.

Welcome
If your store is set up for calculated shipping you should be fine, or if you are shipping FC items. But if you don't already have Hawaii and Alaska on your shipping zones, you need to fix it or they will be charged zero shipping. I haven't offered shipping to either state due to the fact that many of my items are 3lbs or more so I use FedEx as much as possible to save on shipping cost.

This is just another hiccup I need to start working on...oh well I have nothing else to do! 8)

I always fill the US Mainland, Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada for all items. So no problem for me.

The only bad part of eCrater is sending International customers over there because the Shipping Matrix is only pounds.

The shipping matrix is actually whatever you want those columns to be. You can set up one column with Media Mail and another for half pounds if you want. You just have to remember what each column is for and put the appropriate number in when you list. No one ever said #1 had to be for 1 pound. It might have been designed with that in mind, but it's not in stone.

Country2452, I know that theory. I read it long time ago in the eCrater forum. The only problem if that I can't test it because eCrater doesn't show to you the shipping in shopping cart. You need to go throw the checkout to know.

I can't wrap my head around the shipping matrix at EC. I know I could do it if I spent the time to learn it and insert all the data.

But... since I am into giving some customers reduced shipping or free shipping or even hiked shipping depending on amount spend, and risk assciated with country sent to, I'd just rather they contact me in email and tell me what items they have in mind, and we'll go from there.

If US buyer buys one item, then they can click right through, if they want discounts on several items, we'll they can contact me and we'll work that out.

I am convinced EC will never have that wonderful shipping module I once dreamed about, like other sites have.

I'll run my own deals for International shipping costs, just the way I prefer to do it.

The shipping matrix can be complicated but I stick to US mainland buyers to reduce confusion.

Yes, but 60% of the market for my goods is Germany, France, Italy and Japan.

Oh well, they will just have to send me a message each time that they wish to pucchase somethings and then I will invoice them.

No way the horrible shipping matrix can handle the issues I have to deal with to these countries. But I must sell internationally.
