mojavelyn, you have sparked some interest in what you said. Could you please explain more about this tracking system you speak of? Thanks in advance!

alexa.com is part of amazon... I have been using it for years to keep tabs on various sites. But noobies to tracking think alexa is the end all... at one time it was.. but it should never be taken by itself. It should be analyzed with other markers. For tracking a site popularity you should also consider Quantcast and compete. Compete and Alexa both use tracking toolbars. And Quantcast is placed directly on the site.

As I said, the lower the number in alexa, the better.

I think ebay even had an alexa page rank of 8 at one time. meaning it was the 8th most popular site on the internet.

Now with the alexa toolbar, or the compete tool bar, this tells alexa and compete where you go on the internet, spyware. Alexa and Compete can be manipulated far easier then Quantcast. The difference is, this is spyware you elect to install. Not what some crook dumps on you to hijack your computer.

And you will have to read how each site measures traffic popularity. But the lower the number the better it is.

the google page rank is the higher the number the better... but google is also tryingto say as long as the PR is in the green zone, its still a good sign. And this is because google measures a sites popularity differently.

Now if ebay's alexa drops to 50 ... then we know we have actually made a difference.

Wow Mo, Thanks for that! Huge information I have never heard of any of those sites so I will check them all out. I saved this information as I definitely appreciate the value. Thanks again! If I may ask do you know what the ebay rank is currently with Alexa?

bluestreaksi, I' wondering it too. It will see how it works because I will post this week some items that the difference are condition and in extreme cases a photo.

mojavelyn is right. The bad thing about Alexa is that the toolbar/spyware is really the one that is getting many of the info. Alexa encourages any site submitter to add it. In other words maybe you can get lucky if they see your site without the toolbar.

OP, have you noticed that there's a world-wide recession going on?

It's been in all the papers.

In a recession, people hunker down and STOP BUYING THINGS.

We're just going to have to tough it out until they feel like buying things again.

It'll happen, but it's going to take a lot of time. In the meantime, make sure all the fundamentals are right - do you have the best price, the best shipping and the best service. If not, fix it. If so, then hope the recession's over soon.
