I have been an eBay seller since Aug 2001 under a previous ID and a full time eBay trader since 2004. I have seen a lot of changes over the years. From what was considered a very good place to trade to what it is now. Certainly not business friendly. Commission has risen from early days 2 to 5% to nearly 10%, admittedly listing fees were much higher then and there was no business seller platforms back then.

I trade in Stamps, Coins and small Antiques and Swimwear. Since end of May I have begun to migrate all my non-sports goods to Delcampe.net and my own e-commerce website stampsnall.com. The reason for this at Delcampe - ZERO listing Fees and commission a darn site less than eBay. Although not a site really designed around the business seller (deisned by collectors for collectors), (I can manage) I have sold a lot more of these items in the last 2 months than on eBay in the last 12 months. Regarding eBay's Top rated great rip off. I achieved top rated seller for the first 3 months then got knocked off by a few sellers who had deliveries delayed by Royal Mail. As a Silver Power seller I used to get a regular 25% seller fees discount. Silver Top Sellers only now get 20% and as an above average Silver Power seller only 5%. Even though they have a 3-tier seller system. I have suggested a 3-tier discount structure and a 3-tier icon system. Both have fallen on deaf ears. Since losing my top rated seller status my sales are down over 60% and no matter how hard I try I just get 1 or 2 low stars the day before qualification somehow without fail!!!!

Further regarding offering Free P&P to get higher search results. I have been told on the phone from customer services that the system does not work. In fact when I started Free P&P my listings frequently failed to appear nearer the top of searches. If one includes P&P in cost of an item eBay get a further commission on that as well. In my case as most of my post items cost approx £3 to post eBay gain another 30p commission. I have now all but removed this little extra rip off.
