Hi Everyone,

Anyone know when PayPal is going to allow Canadians to have a PayPal debit card? Seems kind of ridiculous they don't already after all it is our money ..... Isn't it?

Sounds like a conversion rate problem. Or international Banking regulations. Chances are your Government might have laws that prevent this type of transaction, or the fees are to high.

It certainly does not sound like a Paypal issue as they want everyone to have the Paypal debit card, after all it does produce income for them.

PayPal makes money from the online transactions, direct payments... They do not charge me in Calif to use the card. In fact they pay if you use it as a cc, even online, I'll use it for purchases in some cases.

Thanks Mo, I do not have a Paypal debit card, I just assumed they made money on ATM transactions, and such. I felt sure they did not on regular transactions, just the ATM type dealings.

They might at ATM machines... but I use it as a CC everywhere. PP and the Bank's ATM make money from ATM transaction. In CA stores will even charge you a fee on top if you use it as an ATM. In Texas before I left, they didn't... But here in CA they sure do... So I use it as a CC and no fees. I forget how much I get back on CC transactions, its posted on the PP site somewhere. I've had mine since 04.

:PayPal warily eyes the Fed’s forthcoming debit card rule"

The Federal Reserve Board accepted its final comments this week on a proposed debit card rule that could have a major impact on PayPal as well as on merchants and banks.

The rule would restrict debit card interchange fees—the fees merchants typically pay to card issuers—to a maximum of 12 cents per transaction, which would slash the current fee structure and have major ramifications for both merchants and banks.

It’s less clear, however, how the rule might impact PayPal Inc., the online payment services unit of eBay Inc. PayPal pays online merchants when consumers with PayPal accounts make purchases, and consumers load those accounts with value using debit or credit cards or other forms of payment. PayPal earns revenue by charging merchants a percentage of the purchase transaction value, typically about 2% to 3% plus a fixed fee of about 30 cents. That’s at least $2.30 on a $100 online order. If the Fed determines that such a fee structure can be defined as an interchange fee, PayPal could be subject to the 12-cent maximum, dramatically reducing its revenue.
