Some iTunes users are finding that scammers are stealing their money through PayPal. Numerous people have been claiming as much on Twitter and Facebook.
Erick Schonfeld at TechCrunch reports, "At least one group of scammers has found a way to charge thousands of dollars to iTunes accounts through PayPal. One targeted customer told us, 'My account was charged over $4700. I called security at PayPal and was told a large number of iTunes store accounts were compromised.' His email was filled with nearly 50 receipts from PayPal for $99.99 each."
Some are going so far as to remove their PayPal accounts from iTunes altogether.

I had that problem a couple of months ago. Only my situation involved my credit card thankfully and not paypal.
I received four emails from itunes thanking me for my multiple downloads totaling several hundred dollars.
I checked my credit card and sure enough, the charges were on there. I tried to contact itunes and of course, no phone number but an email address.
Apparently the one and only time I downloaded a couple of songs through itunes over a year ago, they kept my credit card on file and someone hacked into their website and stole my credit card information.
I contacted my credit card company and emailed itunes. Itunes finally emailed me back and told me that they couldn't give me a credit on the charges until they heard from my credit card company saying that I was disputing the charges. I forwarded their email to my credit card company and it took a couple of weeks but I finally got the charges taken off of my card. I went into my itunes account and removed all personal information and my credit card information and I emailed them and told them to close my account. I also had to cancel my credit card and have a new one issued.
I don't know how itunes can say it is not on their end. I have never had this problem on any other sight that I have made purchases on.
I wasted a lot of time and headaches on getting it all straightened out and they did not even have the courtesy to admit fault or apologize for it. If you go on there discussion board, you will see that this has been happening to a lot of people for over a year, there seems to be a common thread - their website. |
