I'm relatively new to selling on eBay but I've had a certain account since 05 as a buyer, which had a 100% feedback rating with a score of 7. As you can tell I didn't shop a lot on eBay.
Recently I started selling on that account and I noticed most buyers didn't bother leaving feedback, so my 100% rating stayed intact with an additional few positive feedback entrees added. After selling a magazine to one buyer, she actually gave me a negative review complaining that it had a cheap paper cover. I responded that the item was listed as a magazine which are generally made out of paper.
Now I'm at 85.7% which doesn't look great, thanks to this crazy buyer. My question is, should I try to boost my feedback score on this account or start over with a fresh account after getting a 100% rating as a buyer first? |

You have so little FB as it is, it really doesn't matter one way or another.
You might as well start a new account - it's not against the rules - all you need is a different email address. You could garner more than 7 FB as a buyer in a couple of weeks easy.
Personally, I would buy anything over $10 from someone with less than 20 FB regardless of 100%. |

Stockmiser is right maybe you can make a new one. But it will maybe get you like near 10 buys from sellers because now 1 of 5 sellers never gives you a Feedback.
In my case as a buyer I always give a feedback when I received the item. Unless it is a electronic device or software that I need to test first. As a seller when I received the Feedback from the buyer.
Blazr63 about the negative feedback. It is good to know the reason the buyers gives it to you. Some buyers aren't so good writing detailed feedbacks. Maybe the "cheap paper cover" was something miss in your description or the cover get a lot of damage in mail transit. In description I said it because sometimes magazines and books have different variant covers in different materials. |

I'm now thinking that a lot of buyers don't pay much attention to feedback scores since I sold 2 items today with Positive feedback: 85.7% Feedback score: 10. Probably neither will post feedback on me, but I already gave them positive ones since they were quick payers.
As a rule, I'll never buy from a seller with less than 98% positive feedback, even if their price is much lower than the competitors. I also don't buy from China since it takes too long to receive the item. |

I always look the feedback. If the seller has negatives I read some of them. If I read stupid things for example "like paper quality", "I'm waiting for feedback", "Item was sold out, but seller refund $$$", etc. I begin to look the Positives and DSR.
I still don't understand how eBay and some of this e-commerce allow the buyers to leave feedback is the $$$ was refund.
I as a buyer. If the seller refund me the $$$. Ok no problem. I will buy it from another seller. |

I don't know about that 1 in 5. I have a buyer account that's bought over 20 items in the last 3 months - from printing supplies to used xbox controllers to medical items - and I've gotten FB from every seller.
In fact, out of the last 100 purchases in the last year, I've gotten feedback from exactly 97. Not only that, but almost all of my recent purchases got FB before I gave the seller FB - most right after I paid (which is how I do it as a seller too).
I actually think the exact opposite is true. Sellers are now so over-concerned with their FB and DSR's that they are giving buyers FB in hopes of getting as much positive marks as possible. |

Stockmiser, you find better sellers than I.
In my case the sellers that don't give feedback. They don't give feedback to anybody and other only to people who aren't sellers.
As a seller I prefer to wait to get the feedback of the buyer. Because for me is the way that I can said this is the end of the transaction. Also in the past I met a lot of buyers asking me to leave them a feedback after they pay and more than half of them never leave me a feedback in return. And also I have a buyer that it looks that is only building his/her own feedback because never leave a feedback for other sellers.
eBay lose the concept of feedback long time ago, but I still believe is something mutual.
And yes the seller are over concerned about feedback. I receive some items and sometimes the only paper inside isn't the invoice is a note to give them positive feedback and 5 stars. |

I prefer to leave feedback after the buyer has paid and some buyers have even commented that this is the way they expect things to be done.
My feedback left for me has been pretty good - I don't have an exact percentage, but I'd say it's in the high 70%s |

| I just got a couple more positive feedbacks, but since my total score is only 12, my percentage is just under 90%. The one person who left me an irrational neg review, I think was trying to get a refund so the item would be free. I refuse to be manipulated by buyers. |
