Citi Group's Mark Mahaney reported on retail traffic trends for the month of August, calling trends "modestly positive," with overall U.S. traffic to online retail websites in August up 15.2% year over year.
ComScore tracked 16% year over year growth to Amazon's U.S. website, however, it was a deceleration compared to the 21% year over year growth in the second quarter, according to the Citi report.
Meanwhile, ComScore tracked a 2% year over year decline to eBay's U.S. website, which was "less worse" compared to its 5% decline in the second quarter.

I wonder how ebay can claim these tiny little drops, when I have moved 85% of my selling elsewhere. And if you look around the site, they simply do not have the selection that they had a few years ago. Yet I read profits up, traffic down 2% only.
How did they keep profits up and increasing all these last 3 to 4 years with everyone I know moving as much sales as possible over to other sites? Perhaps its paypal keeping the whole boat floating forward. |
