We just received approval of our merchant account from Cardservice International (1-866-416-0244). You can sign up at:

http://www.cardservicesales.com

Their per-transaction merchant rate is less than PayPal (PayPay raised their rate to $2.99% + $.35 per transaction, and although you don't pay PayPal a monthly fee, you make up for it in eBay fees). Cardservice's rates are:

Free LinkPoint virtual terminal
Free LinkPoint Secure Payment Gateway set-up
Free shopping cart set-up
Visa/MC - 2.19% + $0.25 per transaction
LinkPoint Gateway Access Fee - $19.95 per month
24/7 customer service - $9.95 per month

You can take customer payments by phone and manually enter them into the virtual terminal from any computer AND they also give you free set-up for the LinkPoint Secure Payment Gateway so you can accept payments on your site as well. You also can generate Buy it Now/Add to Cart buttons and add them to your auction pages or web site. They have very good customer service, and their emails are professional and detailed.

You may want to keep your eye closely on your CardService International statements. I found that in my situation what I was told upfront did not hold true. Below is my October 2005 statement this happening to often is why I closed the account.

DETAIL OF FINANCIAL ADJUSTMENTS AND FEES FUNDED DURING THE STATEMENT PERIOD.

TRANSACTION TYPE POSTED REFERENCE # DESCRIPTION OF TRANSACTION NET AMOUNT FUNDED

FEE 08/31/05 000000000000 SETTLEMENT STATEMENT FEE 1 TRANSACTIONS AT 9.950000 -9.95
FEE 08/31/05 000000000000 LINKPOINT SECURE GATEWAY FEE -20.00
FEE 08/31/05 000000000000 CUSTOMER SERVICE FEE -10.00
FEE 08/31/05 000000000000 MC/VISA MINIMUM (25.00) MINIMUM LEVEL LESS -25.00
TOTAL FEES -64.95

GRAND TOTAL -64.95

Basically I had to pay them $64.95 a month as a monthly service charge. Hopefully you have a Better Deal than I had. My percentages etc were quoted the same as you have posted but they did not disclose that if each tranaction did not reach a $25.00 Per Transaction (estimated $25.00 per transaction when I signed up) that I would be charged an additional $25.00. In fact if I did not reach that per transaction amount and or if I did not reach the Estimated Monthly amount I would be charged that amount also.

Yep, you have to make a certain minimum to not feel the pinch with these merchant companies. Otherwise, you don't make a dime. I've tried Credit Card International and Auction Checkout and you have to meet a certain minimum monthly amount just to get ahead or all you'll pay is nothing but fees in addition to the selling venue's fees. It's not worth it unless you're dealing in large-volume selling.

Ditto, Goodstuf, same thing happened to me, many mysterious charges over the course of the year I was with CSI. You can do everything listed in the OP with Paypal Pro for $19.95 a month, including using the Virtual Terminal to accept faxed in and telephoned in orders, but you won't have to pay a $75 account closure fee or the monthly $10 statement fee.

My fees were running about $60 a month, sometimes a little higher, sometimes a little lower, with CSI.

The latest statement I have from PPro is July, fee breakout as follows:

Sales: $589.23 (rounded to $590)

$19.95 gateway fee
$22.82 in processing fees

Total paid to Paypal: $42.77

CSI would charge:

$19.95 gateway fee
$13.17 ($590 x 2.19% + 25 cents)
$10 statement fee
$25 below minimum fee

Total: $68.12

Things that make you go "hmmm"....

I just ended my deal with CSI. The last month I didn't use them at all and the total was just under $58.

Many merchant account providers will say you can get a merchant account for "Free" however most will nickle and dime you with statement fees and over charge $5-10 on their gateway fees.
