I'm also having exactly the same issue!
I've got a custom theme running on my site and I have to edit the following files:
list_payment_methods.tpl.php
shop.cart.tpl.php
The problem is these files don't contain anything that is specified in the instructions. I have seen a post on here with the same problem but no one decided to write how they fixed it they just said it was fixed.

| That's funny... I could have swarn that on the sales page for the Joomla VirtueMart Google Checkout Module, it quite clearly lists "Free fast support" as one of the features for purchasing the product... |
