We have been selling an item on amazon (we are a 5 star seller) for almost 5 years. While there were a few others selling this item, we always had the buy box.
Recently, we discovered that a "new seller" who sells all kinds of items (not related to each other) decided that they would find our product, go to the manufacturer and buy 950 of them and drop ship them to Amazon and use Amazon Fulfillment. They matched our price and because they are using FBA they get the buy box.
I am all for free enterprise BUT I am wondering how this seller would have been able to determine if the sales for this item would have warranted a purchase of thousands? We know for a fact that this seller does not sell our category or products as a "norm" (they are not a hardware seller or a beauty seller). They sell a little of everything. We also know that they contacted the manufacturer of the item in question and had never ordered anything from them before. Because of the size of the order they wanted to place, the manufacturer was happy to set them up...... even though they knew the seller would not represent their entire product line..... only one item.
We do know that the seller is using the "re-pricer" tool to automatically match our price each time we lower it...... Is there a tool that will provide sales volume for a particular product being sold on Amazon?
We have seen amazon invite sellers into their marketplace to offer more competition in a product category.
Can anyone add any experiences or share any possible scenarios as to how this seller could have determined sales volume?

For those of you who have read my original question, I have noticed that amazon lists hot selling items....... And more importantly the sales volume for a give 24 hour period.

| You can usually get an idea of sales volume from the "Amazon Bestsellers Rank: " it provides in the description. If it has a good ranking large sellers will find where to get the item and sell as well. |
