SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Overstock.com, Inc. (Nasdaq:OSTK - News) today announced the introduction of the domain name O.CO as a shortcut for its Overstock.com website. The company purchased the domain name from .CO Internet S.A.S, the official .CO domain registry in July 2010. During the initial introduction period, consumers who shop O.CO will receive free shipping on their entire order. To learn more visit www.o.co.

The introduction of O.CO highlights Overstock.com's growth into a globally recognized brand that is synonymous with the 'O' and is a natural transition of the company's brand to a universally understandable and relevant domain. The O.CO web site will carry all of the same products, award winning customer service, and have the same customized shopping features as the Overstock.com web site.

"Over the eleven years we've been in business we've evolved into a savings engine for shoppers. We have become O.CO," said Overstock.com Chairman and CEO Patrick Byrne. "As a lifestyle destination, consumers can find absolutely anything on O.CO whether they are shopping for furniture, bedding, clothing, and jewelry, buying a car or home, and, soon, looking for their next vacation spot."

In line with the company's dedication to be a savings engine and global online presence, Overstock.com remains committed to giving back to local communities and around the world. In the U.S., Overstock.com has a history of social enterprise and entrepreneurship. In 2009, it partnered with the Wounded Warrior Project and raised more than $250,000 for U.S. veterans.

SO this means that soon we may be seeing domain names like:

I.BM
A.TT
W.SJ
M.GM
PEP.SI
A.BC
N.BC
C.BS
T.NT
U.SA

SO Overstock spent less than $20 to secure a domain name and THAT warrants a press release?

Should someone tell PB this really won't solve their problems?
Should someone tell him people won't remember O.CO, since they already know Overstock.com?

Side note dealing with Overstock.com -
The company I worked for went bankrupt in Jan. 2009 and they liquidated all the inventory. Primarily, we were a distributor of power tools. Amazingly, some of that inventory has ended up on Overstock.com.
If you do a search on Overstock for Clarke WE6490 you will see one listed for $149. Search Google and you will find them for prices ranging from $120 to about $180.
I KNOW where those welders were sent.
I KNOW how much was paid for each one.
Somebody is making some nice bucks along the way, because $149 was about the normal retail price when the company was still in business.

O.Co reminds me of Yoko as in Ono. Not at all sure that's a good association for any company!

Overstock isnt a place to go shopping for bargains. What you pay at Overstock is at least normal retail. Plus, they have nothing that isnt available elsewhere for less. While they certainly BUY items at bargain prices they do not pass the savings on to the consumers.
