Amazon.com Inc today expanded its trade-in program to include consumer electronics items as well as video games and books, following the lead of several online consumer electronics retailers.
The products now covered by the Amazon Trade-In program include tablet computers, cell phones, portable music players, cameras and GPS devices. Amazon pays consumers who send in such items with Amazon gift cards.
"Technology is constantly evolving and newer, better versions of consumer electronics are introduced all the time," says Paul Ryder, vice president of electronics for Amazon.com. "We want to give customers the opportunity to get great value from their used electronics. Hundreds of thousands of customers have already received millions of dollars in gift cards from the other products in our program. The electronics category is a natural extension and we are delighted to offer our customers more trade-in options."

| Has anyone done some quick analysis to compare Amazon buy-back prices with Ebay or other marketplace prices? |

| I just ran a couple samples on eBay, they are paying 10%-20% of what item in same condition would sell for on eBay..... doing this under the guise of "green" "recycling"..........somebodys looking for "suckers" ! |

| Wow, I didn't think it'd be that low. Do we know what they are doing with the merchandise? They've gotta be selling it, right? On Amazon? It's Amazon itself the one refurbishing, listing and fulfilling? |

| I checked on eBay.......It seems to be an eBay affiliate, they pay a small percentage for items in good fully working condition, almost nothing for items with "issues" ... items will likely be re-sold on eBay .... they are paying $10-15 for working ipods that I checked, $10-22 for the working GPS units that I checked, small percentage of what they would sell for. They are using the guise of "recycling" "green" etc .... the only "green" that I see is what is going into their pockets. Better off selling at garage sale or giving to friends or kids. ! |
