Usually for a $19.99 payment, they take out 88 cents. (leaving $19.11 in my account) .................until this morning.

Today I got a $19.99 payment, and they took out $1.08! (leaving $18.91 in my account)

What gives?

Hmph...you may want to contact Paypal for an answer as I went to the site to check, as I was alarmed when I read your message...but it looks like everything in regards to the fees remain the same....I didn't see any changes....??

If the money was from someone internationally, then the rates are different.

If someone in the US pays, then the standard 30 cents plus 2.9% is the fee.

If someone in another country paid, then the fee is calculated differently. See copy and paste from paypal fee schedule:
If your transaction involves a currency conversion, it will be completed at a retail foreign exchange rate determined by PayPal, which is adjusted regularly based on market conditions. This exchange rate includes a 2.5% spread above the wholesale exchange rate at which PayPal obtains foreign currency, and the spread is retained by PayPal. The specific exchange rate that applies to your multiple currency transaction will be displayed at the time of the transaction.

I get alot of international buyers and always see the difference in paypal fees with them vs the US buyers.

It was a domestic buyer(I usually won't ship outside of the US)

I just called them. They claimed it was because my Paypal volume dropped by a couple hundred over the past 3 months?

Personally I never remember them taking out that much, even when business was slow last year....

Oh well, looks like ebay/PP get $1 more for every 5 items I sell. Bloodsuckers.

Seems to me I saw something about a slight rate hike about 4-6 weeks ago. Something like from 2.5% to 2.9%. I know my standard sale had a 0.41 fee and now its a couple of pennies higher.

Can you find anything about the fees fluctuating depending on how much you bring in per month? Can't find anything on it. I know I never came close to bringing in 3 grand a month(or even 2 months).

It looks like you just received an international payment. Paypal takes 1% more for payments from buyers outside the US. Instead of 2.9%, they take 3.9% plus the 0.30 fee, which makes it equal to exactly $1.08. That means no rate hike....for now at least! Mystery solved?

I thought I got an email about a fee change but it is sometimes hard to keep up with the ebay/paypal nut shell games.
