Can anyone please explain to me what "In Active Item Reserves" means?

It must be pretty important because it's right at the top of Ola's home page. I just don't understand what it is.
The counter appears to increase in steady increments of 1.73, and when I last looked it was at $535,299,780.77

BTW, I think the new look is a big improvement... it looks a lot crisper and cleaner.
(I guess you really can put lipstick on a pig)

I'm guessing it's the total reserve values of all the active items on the site?

WOW, THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!

As of today, that “In Active Item Reserves” number is up to $629,557,129.73... An increase of 94 million dollars in just 127 days.
Meanwhile, the “Auction Site Count” has dropped to 217,539... A decrease of 10,021.

In the past 127 days the “Reserves” have grown $740,157 per day.
In the past 127 days the number of listings has decreased by 78 per day.

What this means:
At a rate of -78 per day, the site has a potential projected lifespan of 2788 days (or 7.6 years) until it is down to just one item. In that same time period, the projected value of the “Reserves” counter should reach $2,688,154,730.77 (that’s 2 billion)

…and that, my friends, is going be one expensive bar of soap.

BTW, rumor has it that OLA is thinking about changing the name of the runaway “In Active Item Reserves” counter so that it will sound a little more legitimate. The new name would be “Inactive Item Reserves”.

Not only expensive - but it will take a flashlight for the buyer to find it.

ON a related note:
I went over there after months of avoidance, caused by copious
quantities of disdain.

There is a coin, on the front page, showing SOLD!
$456.00

DISS combobulation: the seller scribbled:

>You are bidding on 1999 American Gold Eagle Coin in a tube from US Mint. We DO NOT search the rolls, We don't have the time and it's not worth it.

Ah--a buyer can expect LOTS of care, here.
No, wait! The sell admits they don't give a C***
We'll skip over this part.

Let's press on:

> We get these rolls from US Mint.

So does every coin dealer. Next!

> We are selling these as Gem Brilliant Uncirculated Bullion.

YoO-HOO-IE: once the coin is in a wrapper it is no longer UNcirculated.
for one thing, it rubs against the coins on either side.
[hides eyes]
Dang.

See, it was 'circulated' to YOU. Duh.
[Some of these points are easier than others]

> The Coins could be graded as MS65 or higher if sent to grading company.

Well, of course they could.
Question: Because you said so?
I'm doubtful--just so's you'll know.
I suspect they could, equally easily, be graded LOWer.

> The coins in the rolls sometimes contain gorgeous coins and sometimes they have small scratches, dings etc.

Ah! You're ''out'' just in case(and we highly suspect you'll need one)
when the coin shows up in the knowledgeable buyer's hands
and discovers that your description don't [sic] ''fit''--you should excuse the expression.

> We have no control over the quality of the coins inside a tube( it's basically the luck of a draw).

Sure ya do. You can type--we've seen your verbiage.

We suspect those words are just the next 'Out''. If only Alice had you as a tour guide in wanderland. She would have made it back, topside, a lot quicker. Course, she'd missed Hugar's mushroom.

Darn it #2--
I JUST! returned to Paypoopala and the listing has disappeared!
Magic.
Of a type.

Your seller who ''got'' $435'', or so the front page advertised, must
have taken his money and run for the hills .

That-- or he sold it to himself or herself, which is the way I'm bettin'.

See, at another website(not THAT one) the 1999 Walking Liberty is 1/10 of
one ounce....1999. LIke this: 1/10th oz American Eagle $5 gold coin
Price:  $  215.00

Gold seems to kind of live , these days to rotate between 1650-1608, these days.

A minted coin--such as your glowing description promises, also enjoys a premium because it is, well, a COIN. I guess in your hands the ''premium '' is the size of Moby Dick(he really did have one. Melville didn't make that up).

Dare I add, I follow the price of gold every day so the price of gold coins is no mystery(or, magic).

Poopala is one giggle after the next.
I'd write more but I'm too busy holding my sides.
Excessive laughter makes my ribs hurts.
*wincing*

ePier's count never changes. I've always been curious as to what the real number is.

Mike, I've often wondered why ePier never changes, OlA only updates once a day, and most of the rest update hourly.

OK, before we all start getting excited over the numbers........

The site recently had some major upgrades and, like all things new on the internet, there are some bugs to be worked out.
The numbers of course are not correct, so please be patient in posting false information.

Payola's front page: testimonials: ''I can rack up 8 bucks [for listing] on ebay and still no guarantee of selling anything''

Instead a body can go to payola, pay $200 (?) and have no sales.

(whips out abacus) Let's see now, 50 free listings minus free photos in many categories v $200 to be an OLA Flounder.

The No Guarantee is the same on any internet site so that's a wash.

Doing the math: Pass. I got caught once several years ago. In sum: AVOID.
