I registered a domain name on 123reg almost 2 years ago. It is about to expire in just less than 2 months, so I would ideally like to have my website created before then, so I don't need to pay the renewal fee.

But I'm very confused as to how I would get my domain name address out of that site and on to my own website. I couldn't find it in their help pages either.

Is it easy as to just write my website address into my website as wouldn't that give me a message saying my domain name has already been reserved, even though I'm the one who reserved it and am now trying to use it?

I know nothing about websites and domains lol, so this probably sounds a very stoopid question, but I don't know how to get my domain name from 123reg and into use  ( I don't want to use 123reg to host my website)

My domain name is hosted by godaddy.com and automatically updates every 2 years, though that's about to stop once it expires again.

If you do not re-up your hosted name, you lose it and all copyrights.

If wishing to keep your copyright name you MIGHT be able to transfer it to another hosting company, else you lose your domain name all together.

PSU offers online stores but you still have to pay for your DNS via godaddy or 123 or whomever you chose to host your domain name.

Another alternative is to merely use bluejay, ecrater or any of the other many free online selling venues and type in your store name at each and every place you sell.
Check my siggy and see whay my stores look like.

Hope this helped!

Where are you hosting your website? I'm assuming it's not with 123reg (?) If your website is also hosted with 123reg, you shouldn't need to transfer it. If your website is hosted somewhere else, then this is what you will probably need to do.

I just transferred one of my domains a few months ago and my domain was registered with a GoDaddy reseller. But the process with 123reg should be about the same. You have to log into your 123reg account and unlock your domain name and request a transfer code. They will usually email it to you. Then you have to log into your ecommerce webhosting account, fill out the fields in their transfer form where they ask you what domain you're wanting to transfer and then put that code in the field where they ask for it. 123reg may call the code something else, but they should have instructions under their FAQs on how to transfer your domain to another domain webhost. You will need to have already set up a hosting account with an ecommerce webhost, like GoDaddy, PSU or any number of others out there so you'll have somewhere to transfer your domain name to. I'm not saying it has to be GoDaddy and PSU. These are just the two I'm familiar with that I know have separate shopping cart hosting. I'm assuming you already understand that your domain registrar and ecommerce webhost are two different things, although you may have your domain registered with the same company that you have your shopping cart hosted with, so I hope this does not sound too confusing.

If it's just a matter of you wanting to use your domain name with an ecommerce host, like PSU, and not transferring it to another webhost, then all you need to do is log into your 123reg account and go under your domain manager and "point" your domain to your ecommerce webhost's name servers. It sounds intimidating, but it's pretty easy to do. I have most of my domains pointed to my Blogger webpages, so instead of "myblogname.blogspot.com," my blog URLs are my domain names.

You don't need to transfer your domain to another host to use it on your store hosted with a different webhost. You just need to point it to your store. But you do need to renew your domain or you will lose it and you will have to do that through 123reg if you're not going to transfer it. If you can't remember your account info to get into your 123reg account, you will have to call them. Most good domain resellers will have a customer service phone number that you can call and they should be able to walk you through what you need to do. So check their website.

If this all sounds too confusing, it may be easier for your to just start all over with a new domain name, get it registered a company like GoDaddy, HostGator, 123reg or whomever, and have them host your shopping cart, too. Then they will do all the "pointing" of your domain for you. If you need more help, let us know.

Another tip - If you're not sure how to set up a website and aren't sure you want to pay for webhosting until you know what you're doing, take a look at Weebly.com. You can set up a free website AND use your own domain name (again, you have to point it to Weeby's servers). I used them for about a month just to try them out and I like them. Everything is drag-and-drop, no HTML knowledge required. I didn't stay with them, though, because they kept emailing me trying to get me to sign up for their paid hosting plan. But you don't have to do that. You can keep the free account as long as you want. Hope this helps.

Contact whomever you are going to have host your site and have them do the transfer for you... I have three of my sites hosted by Chapel Communications Zingaweb. They transferred mine without any problems. I contacted them, they explained what they needed from me and once they got it they did all the work... but basically your new hosting service can do most of the work for you if you contact them...

If I am understaning you correctly, you want transfer from one REGISTRAR to another your domain name? Transfering your domain from one registrar to another is not the same as having your website hosted. You can have your domain REGISTERED with say GO DADDY, and your website is HOSTED with say HOSTGATOR. If you are simply going from one registrar to another, you will, as stated, need to go into your account, unlock it, and ask for an EPP code. This is the code that you will need to provide to the new REGISTRAR in order to move it to them. Just understand, because you moved who your domain is registered with DOES NOT mean that your website has moved as well.

Just a side note.. Just because you are moving your domain from one registrar to another, or your website from one hosting company to another, DOES NOT get you out of the renewal fees. Domain renewal fees are usually yearly or more, depending on how long you pay for, and hosting is usually monthly or yearly. Don't pay the fees, and you loose your domain or your website hosting. Simple as that.

hey ilovemychris,

I work on behalf of 123-reg,

Domain renewal are not avoidable if you wish to keep the domain name registered to you as Juliartz quoted you would still need to pay to pay for the domain renewal fee even if you transfer the domain elsewhere.

I think better you can ask to your domain hosting provider. They will help you to solve this issue.
