Hey all:

Well - long story short, 9 items same seller, not ebay! This is a repeat buyer and I sent a PP invoice. The buyer paid (as before) and all of a sudden, I get this message above asking for information.

Anyone had one of these? I'm out nothing, as I've not shipped anything to the buyer.

Did the buyer start this process? Is there a suspected fraud? I'm so confused. The buyer and I did exchange several emails - not about the items, or our purchases, but rather about PSU, eBaY and other auction venues.

So - I'd love any feedback. PP asked 5 questions of me (who, what, when, where, etc.) which I answered - I got a canned response - we'll chat at you in 5 days and have sent a message to the buyer. But - the suspense is killing me!!

:D :D

it is a common ploy. they are making interest on your money while they hold it.
it is done often ...especially when people withdraw funds immediately after it appears in the account.
possibly illegal, but they have better lawyers than you or i can afford, and as they are not a bank, they are not governed by the federal reserve.
they win...we lose.

We had this happen with a jerk of a customer. The item was up for local pickup and the guy purchased it from 8 states away. We told him we would try to use UPS as it was an oil-burning heater and it was huge! While working out the details of shipping, the customer complained to Paypal and they started the same investigation you are dealing with. We immediately refunded his money and wrote off the entire thing as a loss.

Normally this situation is initiated by the buyer. Make sure you only ship to a confirmed address and keep any correspondence between you and a customer for about 90 days after you ship the item. That should keep you covered.

My recommendation is to request a refund through feebay's dispute process and claim that you agreed not to go through with the transaction. Keep an eye on how the customer responds and you should get a good idea of what their problem is.

Thanks you all! What's strange about this is...

1. It's a repeat buyer, and she should know I've not yet sent the package (I always send a delivery note).

2. I'm really not out anything as I didn't ship the item (other than my time) and the venue is a free venue.

3. I've not heard from the buyer, and don't intend to contact further unless she contacts me.

4. She's an active buyer and seller on several venues...All feedback and information available suggests she's honest, and experienced.

Is it possible that PP began this vs. the buyer? As this is my first, I'm just not certain who or how it began. The good news for me - had I been here, most likely the package would have been prepared and dropped off for shipping. I had to step out 4 a few hours yesterday, which turns out to be a blessing - as they delay between payment made and PP involvement was about 3 hours.

A lesson for me - - - I may start having a "next day" only shipping policy. That way, if the buyer changes their mind, or something else flukes out - I've kept my losses to a minimum. :D :D

In Aug 04 I had gotten rather behind on some shipments (busy with the farm and depression slowing me down). I didn't get several orders out for 10 days to 2 weeks.

Meanwhile, one buyer filed a despute with PP about a day or so after the package had been sent. This one too, started the dispute process without emailing me first to see what had happened.

I don't totally remember what I did, but I did go to my account at PP and to the area marked either "dispute" or "resolution", something like that. I filled out the form from them and I believe they sent a copy to the other party. I got an email from her the next day then saying that she got the package and canceled the dispute.

It's all "communication" sometimes. I'm rather anal in that I rarely delete emails, so I can go back and usually find the buyers email addy to contact them again.

But I wonder if some of these issues are because many people DON'T keep their emails and then don't know how to contact someone later if there is a problem. I know they could find it in their "myeBay" but maybe they don't know that.

Anyway, mine was resolved easily. I hope your's does too.

Carol

Well...I've heard nothing from my buyer, so assume they originated this action. So...do I have to wait for the investigation to end to relist and what type of feedback do you leave when this happens?

It sure would be nice to know what happened! I guess buyer changed mind and this was a way out.

Hello 2BOYSandTOYS,

Why don't you contact the buyer? I would ask them about it. Couldn't it be that someone has hacked into their account and are trying to get all of the money they can before wiping them out clean? (is my paranoia showing? :P) I would definitely email them...if not pull their contact info and call them.

Good Luck!

I've sent email to the buyer, but am hesitant to call them. If they don't want to reply to email, I'm quite certain they'd not welcome a call...I might do this if I don't hear something from them and/or the PP folks by Tuesday/Wednesday! I don't want to harrass, and a phone call might be considered just that...

Just a thought, but the buyer might be in the same boat as you wondering what's going on if PP initiated the action especially if this is a return buyer. If it is a case of hijack, maybe a friendly "I'm confused about this" email would be appropriate. Waiting might be a mistake. Just thinking out loud here.

Does the buyer have any ended sales with other buyers or can you search that way? Could they have gotten in over their head?

If it's on ebay, file the UID.

I have sent an inquiry to the buyer - what's up type of message - did that when the email came thru from PP. So - I've attempted to make contact. That was on Thursday. When I didn't hear anything, on Friday, I sent a message making sure she knew the items had not shipped yet, and were on hold pending the investigation.

It's not on the bay (which I'm glad or I'd be stressed over fees)!!

I believe I've given the buyer all the information and "questions" I can without appearing desperate or other. I just there was a way to know what prompted the investigation - the buyer or PP. And...I can't find anywhere to look for that type of information. :?:

Erin,

From everything I've read here and on other boards, I don't think PP starts anything on their own. Either a customer starts a specific despute over a sale or they tell PP about a stollen / hacked card and PP puts a hold on everything from that card.

So I would 90% say your customer did something to start this.

Sorry,
Carol

That's about all you can do, then. Got my fingers crossed for ya!
