Wow. PayPal released some new public numbers recently that show the payments platform is processing a massive number of payments per day. PayPal says that it saw $3,650 in Total Payment Volume every second in Q2 2011. By our calculations, that means PayPal is processing around $315.3 million in payments per day. On average, the payments platform is seeing upwards of over 5 million transactions a day.
PayPal has unequivocally been the crown jewel in parent eBay’s family of businesses. This past quarter, PayPal delivered its first-ever billion dollar revenue quarter. Total net total payment volume (TPV) grew 34% compared to the same period of last year. And PayPal is actually closing in on eBay’s marketplaces segment in terms of revenue (which posted $1.6 billion in revenue in Q2).
Another area where PayPal is growing fast is mobile. The company said earlier this year that is seeing $10 million in mobile transactions per day, and expects more than $3 billion in mobile TPV this year, compared to $750 million in 2010.

And they still aren't regulated like a bank or credit card company.
I wonder if they plan to re-hire the 1600 workers eBay/Paypal laid off in 2008 now that they proved they can still process record payment amounts, and make $1 billion in a quarter?
1600 workers at 50,000/year, that's just 8% of that single quarter's Paypal only profit for the whole year. Those layoffs "to remain competitive" sure as hell worked. |

| What's interesting for me, is when I stopped using ebay, and therefore Paypal AND ebay - my PayPal account has been problem free for years. (Knock on wood). I use it for everything from invoicing to being paid back for things. |

| I wonder how much less they would be processing if it weren't for the fact that Ebay requires sellers to use Paypal? |

Patty00, without the data and correct info. I can guess that maybe 50%-60% is from eBay.
I was making a search in Froogle for a item. I found a lot of US sites that have there personal checkout and the Paypal checkout. It looks like Google isn't getting impulse with some sellers.
Right now after reading it, if I was an executive from eBay that voted against buying Paypal. I will be the biggest idiot in all the planet.
In AuctionBytes a lot of people believe that a good method to save the USPS is making the Money Order as online payment method. Every time I read the news about PP getting $$$ from everywhere. It is clear that the USPS forget to move to the future and some people don't want them to move anyway. |
