I run a lot of craigslist ads. It's one of the alternatives I use to ebay.

A MAJOR problem with Craigslist is that it is FAR too easy for Dishonest folks using Flagging software to end the legitimate ads of competitors.

Craigslist has a strange philosophy about letting the market "fly" as it will, yet they put up rules and enforce somewhat arbitrarily. That's fine, IF you happen to be Mr. Craig, but most of us are not.

To address the problem of low-life scum bags from being able to flag and thus terminate legitimate competitors ads, Craigslist need only do one simple little thing.....

Require Captcha for flagging.

That one little itty bitty step would cut out 99.99% of the unfair flagging that takes place on Craigslist.

To make it even harder for scum to get away with it, they could require being logged in.

I have NO CLUE why they haven't done either. If people keep using flagging software to kill competitors ads, eventually it will kill Craigslist. What a shame the folks over there at Craigslist won't pay attention to this BEFORE it gets to that point.

yea There are a lot of Idiots there that flag because they have nothing to do but a lot of it is because they put it under something other than it is suppose to be and that happens all over Craigs list with sellers want to sell a bike, swimming pools, snow mobiles, land property, wanted items, collectables, tools, household, ect
So that is why there is so much flagging because there are so many that can't or deliberitly use the worng catagory to post.

if one of my ads gets flagged i repost it immediately. i guarantee you that the flagger will give up before i will.

i had a competitor in dallas that played the game for a week. he finally realized that he was wasting his time and gave up.

I use really good tracking software and I get more traffic from bp than cl
I post to the top 10 bp cities and get great traffic to my sites

As far as I'm concerned cl is as dead as ebay

I have no need for either

I use Craig's a lot. We do a triage on our sales depending on size of item, cost of item, etc. Craig's gets all our large items too large to ship easily. I'm looking for alternative to eBay.
Craig's Flagging: We have about 1 flagged ad out of 70 - 80 ads run. Acceptable - just annoying. You CAN NOT repost flagged ads - they have to be re-written! We found that any ads for vinyl flooring were immediately flagged and removed - have to assume a local commercial flooring company is squashing the competition. Love the open feeling at Craig's, but this is the price.
Requiring LOG IN to flag would solve much of the problem...also software in Craigs to track # of flags given per period time - limit flagging after so many flags a month.
