eBay sellers continue to report that the company is prohibiting them from increasing the price of their live listings. One seller described the problem on the eBay discussion board on Sunday, explaining she had decided to increase her auction and Buy It Now prices on a couple of listings. "Ebay prevented me from modifying my prices in my listings. Neither of them had a bid. The only way I could modify my listing prices was to end them. The error message says to end listing to modify price."

eBay had always allowed sellers to make revisions to listings unless they item had a bid or was within 24 hours of the listing expiration date.

Bad news for sure... I can remember listing an item and seeing that I posted the wrong price revised it to correct price.

Just another thing to irritate sellers...

Can anyone confirm this?

I can modify my prices on my BIN listings, but I'm not running any auctions.

Okay, I did find this interesting and quite detailed page about what you can and cannot change under various conditions:

Never have had a problem changing my prices on my fixed price listings any time during their 30 day duration except when it gets down to the last 12 hours, of course.

Bumped up prices on several items this afternoon because of increased interest and people will pay what I ask as I'm the only one offering these
items on Ebay or anywhere else on the web from what I can see -- so if
the shopper wants it badly enough, then they'll pay....

a response from ebay in their forums

"Thank you for taking the time to call eBay Customer Support. I understand that you were attempting to increase the price of an item of yours and were hitting a message preventing you from doing so. I understand that this must be frustrating and I would like to offer some help.

The reason that we do not allow items to be revised dramatically is because we don’t want buyers to see an item at a price with plans to purchase the item and then go back and see that the price has been increase dramatically. This could be very disappointing, but also could result in a buyer purchasing an item expecting to get it for a price that is no longer offered. Now that you understand the purpose I want to tell you how to work through this particular item. If you increase the price by less the 50 percent first and then increase the price again, the system will allow you to set the price to the amount you want.

I hope that I have explained this so that you can understand the purpose as well as how to increase the item price on this item. Thank you for being a part of the eBay Community. If there is anything more that we can help with please let us know.

Thank You,

eBay Customer Support"

I think Ebay must of put a new Moron in charge of stupid rules.. as in the closed auction picture fiasco that is mentioned elsewhere. Nothing but a hassle to those of us trying to list items.

I have store, I listed a store GTC item, 2 minutes later i tried to fix the correct price and was told no as the increase was too high and i needed to close it and relist it and repay the listing fees.

there is absolutely no reason for this as in the picture problems except some one is making stupid rules at ebay. I do see that within 24 hours ebay resended the rules on the pictures that would show up on a closed lot. that was fairly quick. the guy i talked to from support said even he was upset as he buys also. I hope they quickly fire the idiot making these rules or at least promote him to one of the useless departments with a big raise. He is probably someone's wife's cousin?
