Open Mobile Summit John Donahoe, CEO of eBay, has said that the concept of e-commerce is dead and buried, since consumers really don’t care about where they buy, so long as they get the cheapest price.
Speaking at the Open Mobile Summit in San Francisco, Donahoe said that the increasing use of mobile technology had blurred the barrier between e-commerce and regular retail to such an extent that the former term was essentially meaningless. Now consumers are walking into retail stores, and using their phones to identify better prices for goods they like, and will use either online or offline purchasing to get the price they want.
“Over the last 12-18 months we at eBay have changed our view on e-commerce,” he explained. “We’re now seeing a profound change in how consumers are behaving, and we’re going to see more changes in the next three years than we’re seen in the previous 20 in terms of shopping and payments. Mobile devices are blurring the lines between online and offline at a rate no one would have predicted.”

Yeah Donny on the ball and on top of everything, LOL! How come all of PayPal's overseas transactions are actually completed by the Dutch internet banking giant ING? Why would I want to pay PayPal fees when ING offers free accounts I can use for off ebay purchases?
Has Donny heard of Serve? Or perhaps Apple's eventual payment service?
Sorry cheapest price don't determine where I buy. In the 3 years I was gone form eBay I bought nothing on the site because of the way they screwed sellers over like me. Whats so cheap about ebay - sure no sales tax, but then the brick and tile has already transported the item in a store near you so no shipping charges. |

I no longer sell on ebay because I got tired of having to compete with fraudulent merchants selling violin-shaped firewood to people who had no way of judging quality.
I now sell only locally, to people who can see and hear my instruments in person. I occasionally let one out on approval for a customer to compare with the competition. Those I almost always sell. I have great success because of the high value of my instruments.
Oh, did I mention lately that since I no longer sell on ebay, I make more money? |

yea but it all falls back to the mentality of I want it cheap and I want it now. there are a few that want quality and have a respect for their purchases but most look at everything is a disposable and if it breaks just replace it never even try to fix it because you would have to wait for it to be done and use but a replacement is ready to go!!
More and more most things have been cheapened to where they don't last more than a couple of months to a few years, the supply and demand for quality has become a thing of the past.
Businesses have gotten good at producing low cost disposable goods with a limited shelf and sales life electronics, appliances, shoes & clothing, just about everything that touches your life or you use on a daily basis. Guaranties are good for toilet paper as the most are from the MFG and they want all the information when where how much and a recept for it with purchase date city and state ect and the time spent jumping through the loops isn't worth the effort.
Not to much holds value anymore. and collecting market has gone pretty much by the wayside.
You have to ask your self if the world is a better place because of it ???
The other side of I want it cheap and now is to get it free which would be best lol |

Absolutely agree.A lot of the tools I sell are for the owners of classic or vintage vehicle owners.
They can buy much cheaper, cheap chinese made junk that will either break or take the corners off the nuts and bolts.Do I really want to pander to tight wads and pay ebays sky high fees as well?
No. |

| I'm sure Donahoe "the brain" will get a great big thanks from Jeff besos and also from Walmart - who are going into e-commerce in a big big way. They'll be stressing order on line and pick up at any store or have it delivered to your home. As usual donahoe is looking the other way as progress passes him by ;-) |

Donahoe is too funny! Perhaps he thinks if he says it, it will happen. Maybe that God complex is why eBay seems to keep getting further and further away from what real people want in an online site.
As noted in another thread here, ComScore reported that e-commerce for the third quarter of 2011 is UP 13 percent over the same quarter last year. |

| E-Commerce isn't over, yet eBay is! Ebay is literally committing suicide....once they were the giant, yet not anymore with a blareing following of greed, harrassment and penalizing sellers. If sellers don't sell X amount their accounts are penalized with "limited selling ability, black out area's, higher rates, and holding of payments." Seller's are tired of being sent deeming and harassing emails telling them what a horrible seller they are! Not a good way to increase ebay profits! Sellers CAN and WILL! Buyers,.....they are bored....eBay gave them what they wanted, "no negative feedback" and now buyers are tired of the game, no fun in it anymore. So, MR. CEO, keep telling yourself low profits are because of other venue's, when the truth is you really don't get the psychological message you are putting out there to sellers and buyer, and apparently don't care! STOP blaming everyone else (to many other venue's) for your company blunders. |
