|
|
eBay has been running near-weekly auction promotions, including the latest promotion in which sellers can list up to 5,000 free auction listings today, November 15th. In addition to viewing promotions as opportunities to launch listings for free, sellers have a number of concerns about them.
Some believe the free-listing promotion makes it more difficult for their listings to be seen in search results. And one reader pointed out that the promotion may be encouraging sellers to convert fixed-price listings to auctions, where eBay is more tolerant of duplicate items.

I seldom sell, or even get a 'Watcher' on my auction style listings. I've always LOVED auction-style, as I find them a lot more fun to watch- especially if a bidding war starts up on one of my items. This past week I DID have one auction item that started out at $8.95 and sold for over $20.00, but that was the exception, not the rule.
It seems I AM getting good search visibility?
I was rather pleasantly surprised though, that even though I'm currently a Below Standard' seller (With 100% feedback and DSRs that have never dropped below 4.9 EVER) that I've had THREE sales since yesterday. Of course Ebay is holding onto those funds. Betty Lou |

| I am allready seeing examples of fail. Sometimes on items with low sell through, the description gets lost. |

| Right now, many Gallery pictures are disappearing... I've noticed when I go in to 'revise' my description- the text description is totally gone! After going 'back' and clicking 'revise' a few times, it will eventually reappear. Betty Lou |

| And notice how they imposed a 5 day limit on those 5K listings when everyone knows 7 day auctions, typically listing on sunday are the best bet based upon sales. This has more to do with ebay more quickly turning in short term profits that any benefit for the seller. No thanks - I save listing fees, but loose big bucks in bids from 2 more days of potential bidders. And why these free listings anyway - you mean eBay had discovered that the % of items that actually sell are down. Certainly not the good old days of 70% sales on the first run of items. |
