Greetings & welcome to the PSU forums.
As for building an alternative marketplace? Might wish to check out kenzy.com before spending too much time or $. Though a bit outdated, "the defunct sites" section might lead you to other ideas as to where and how to sell online.
Also check out the "other online auction sites discussion" Index HERE at PSU. Many have come and gone after lack of interest.
