Google have taken the decision to scrap the Google Checkout program in favour of Google Wallet.

Consumers will be directed to merge their Checkout account with their Google Wallet account. They can automatically transition their Checkout account to Google Wallet the next time they sign in or make a purchase online and their Checkout history will then be available in their Wallet account.

Thankfully Google recognise that merchants won’t take too kindly to having to change their websites a month before Christmas, so shoppers using Google Wallet will be able to make purchases seamlessly on merchant sites that accept Google Checkout. Buyers will simply be able to log in and pay with their Wallet account… assuming that they’re aware that their Google Wallet will work on sites with the Google Checkout branding.

Once Christmas is out of the way in the new year Google will begin transitioning merchants Checkout logos to Wallet logos, and doubtless there’ll be some back end tinkering to do on your website if you currently accept Checkout.

[b]Hello,

Thank you for using Google Checkout. We’re writing about an important change coming to Google Checkout over the next few months - Google Checkout is becoming part of Google Wallet. To help you learn more about this transition, we’ll be hosting a webinar (https://google.connectsolutions.com/checkouttowallet/event/event_info.html).
Please note that space in the webinar is limited, but we’ll have a recording posted for those who aren’t able to attend.

Google Wallet is a virtual wallet that securely stores payment information and makes paying fast both online and in-store. On the web, buyers simply click a Google Wallet button to make quick and secure purchases with their saved payment information. Buyers can also use the Google Wallet mobile app to make purchases at thousands of retail store locations with just a tap of the phone.

Google Checkout buyers will now manage all Google Checkout and Google Wallet orders at http://wallet.google.com/manage. Buyers will be able to make purchases with their existing accounts at sites that accept either Google Checkout or Google Wallet.

At this time, there's no action required from you. In early 2012, we’ll ask merchants, organizations and developers who use Google Checkout to sell items or collect donations to change any website text that talks about Google Checkout to Google Wallet. No additional integration or other technical updates will be necessary. If you use Google Checkout through a third party shopping cart, your cart provider will make any necessary changes.

If you have questions or want to learn more, please attend or view our webinar and visit our website (www.google.com/payments/index.html). We’re looking forward to bringing these new Google Wallet features to your customers and will email you again in the next few months to let you know when to expect the Google Wallet button.

Sincerely,

The Google Checkout Team

What a huge PITA !!!!!!!!!

If you SELL with checkout right now it's almost impossible to get to your sales. ALL links for "checkout" take you to "wallet" for purchases.

There doesn't seem to be any link to your checkout SALES account !!!!!!!

I don't know how I did it the other day but I somehow did get to my sales and thankfully bookmarked that page. In the past that BM never worked to get to the account.

But I have 2 GC accounts for my various sites. After logging out of the account I could get to and logging in on the other account, I went round and round trying to get to my checkout sales page.

NOTHING worked til out of sheer frustration, I hit the link I had made for the other account. Strangely enough it took me to my GC sales page. The new link apparently checks what you are logged in as.

I wish I could tell you how I found that link in the first place tho, as this morning I couldn't find it at all.

Total PITA !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I found the link:

https://checkout.google.com/sell/orders

Or if the above link does not work, go to the google wallet page and sign in

Along the top there will be a bar that has choices of: Mail Calendar Documents Photos Sites Web and More

Click on More and there will be choices underneath that including one that says Even More

Click on Even More and that will take you to a new page that shows you all the marvelous options Google has to offer

Scroll about halfway down and in the right column you will find the Google Checkout icon with a shopping cart

Click on that and it will take you to your orders page.

Nothing like a few dozen extra steps to make your day easier. Doesn't seem to me like they even want you to use them as a way for buyers to make purchases

I had tried that click, click, click thru the "even more " stuff and when I click "checkout" it takes me back to "Wallet".

So it works sometimes for some users.
