I have very poor taste in color selection (my ex told me that).

Could somebody look at this auction and tell me if the light red coke background and the blue text looks ok?

Hello,
If it were me, I would do the text in black or very dark blue. The blue is a little hard to focus on. I love the background! Very neat effect. Nice and clean and puts me in the right frame of mind.

Hope that this opinion is of some small help.

(Now I'm sitting here humming "I'd like to give the world a Coke...)

Try this color for your text and see how it looks.

I looked at the red , and it was almost impossible to read against the red background.

I tried a navy blue, and it was ok and possibly will go with it.

BTW, the ad has averaged 3 hits an hour since I posted it at 3 am. I realize that some of them are from this forum, and shouldn't count, but really pleased with the response of the test ad.

If someone wants the HTML code to put a background in their auctions, I'd be glad to post the code here.

In fact I'll just do it now:
background="url of the location where the background is located">
A simple one liner does such powerful work. It makes the background picture become wallpaper for your auction.

*Sigh*....I hate when asked for an opinion......

'cause I know I'm going to go to extremes --- and this is a case in point.

Alrighty, LokiBob - I would wholeheartedly agree that your blue against
that muddy red backdrop wasn't the best of choices. Makes it difficult to
read.

That said..........

There were several other things in the item description I thought could be
tweaked here and there or improvements made to increase the visual
appeal of the ad.

However, rather than detail them all here, I figured I'd just show you and
let you see what I mean. Go here to see your item description mutated
into a different form:

COKE GLASS DESCRIPTION

A picture is worth a thousand words as they say.

Pull up both your current version and this revamped and compare them
side by side and you'll see where the changes were made.

If you have any questions, I'll be around.

Wow, I can't believe everybody took so much time on my request, and especially GAELICTITCA. TY so very much.

I am definitely going to revamp the ad,

GAELICTITCA:
Do you have any problem with my using the paypal logo thingy? I won't link to your server, but put it in my hosting service. I really liked it.

Not sure I like the frame around the glasses. I liked the subtle way I framed them by buttonizing the picture.

I had not considered white text, and am kicking myself in the butt for that. Appreciate it.

Basically, I like what you have done with it. I'm going to sleep on it, and play with the ad tomorrow.

Again, I appreciate the time you took.......Bob

Retail merchandising is what my expertise was in 'the real world' so
when someone asks me what I think about an Ebay ad design I tend to
get extreme in my answer.........lol

The central points I wanted to make about your presentation as it was
seen on Ebay:

--Make the text legible by going to both a font and color easier on the
eyes. If the ad is too much trouble to read most shoppers will not even
bother to try.

--If you're going to use a background image in your ad make sure that
it enhances your presentation and isn't a distraction. I took the image
you were using and made it darker (so the elements overlaid in the ad
could stand out better) as well as resizing the image so that you didn't
get only a partial image of the background picture to the right side of the
ad where it was cut off (makes for a cleaner looking presentation).

--Choose the wording of your ad carefully. You're attempting to convince
someone to part with their hard earned money for what it is your have to
offer them. How you convey the information is important. You want to
make the item desirable to own, convince the shopper that THEY want to
be the person to possess it. Also, misspelling a word in your presentation
can often times completely derail a buyer's train of thought -- so when in
doubt SPELLCHECK.

As for the PayPal payment icon - I would request you not use it in your
ads. That specific image was created for a client for her auction listings
and I would prefer she not stumble upon it elsewhere.

GAELICTITCA:
As far as the paypal logo, not a problem. I will NOT use it. That is why I asked.

I appreciate all that you did. I am going to take your advice and apply it to all my auctions.

Have you considered writing a book with the advise you have locked up?

......Bob
