this is my first christmas season in 12 years without a single listing on ebay.
sales have been wonderfull and i do not have to deal with ebay and the "new ebay buyer".
i sell through my websites and most other online sites except ebay.
not having to deal with ebay and the horrible buyers that come with ebay has made my holiday season a pleasant experience.
there is life outside of ebay, and it's great!

I agree with you 100% otter. Although we've a few listings there it's ONLY to direct sellers to our own sites and all the other auction sites we sell on.
Without doubt the others are doing far better now than a year ago and increasing all the time.
We're hardly getting any hits at all on ebay but for us sites like CQ Out, Ecrater, Bonanza etc are getting far more hits and sales.
Plus, and this is the biggest plus. NO stress or hassle from our other sales, unlike ebay when you got to practically send it the day BEFORE they've ordered it to ensure you don't get dinged and even then there's always the thought you'd get scammed or instantly closed down for no genuine reason other than an ebay bot decides they don't want you there anymore.
The only good thing about ebay nowadays is as an advertising screen ane even then not many are looking anymore. |

Hey Funky,
You just turned off much of this board by posting a spam message in a thread.
DO NOT post to pimp your site in someone else's thread.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Personally I don't usually do well in Dec as my stuff isn't something most people would buy for Christmas.
But this year I've had a great Dec. Most of it on my own site. A bit on Bonanza and eCrater and 1 last nite from Blujay. I haven't been on eB since early 07.
While I always had my own site and tried MANY alts since 05, my own site has done decent for a long time. But about 3-4 years ago I found some boards specific to my niche. Things have really taken off since then.
As long as you follow board rules about posting links and don't act like you are just spamming with every post, industry specific boards can be a big help. I try to post helpful answers to questions if I feel I have something to share. I have also learned a whole lot FROM those boards.
| I have never quite figured why a person needs their own website to open a storefront , when there are plenty of message boards and forums that allow free selling of your goods simply by posting it, and these websites I am speaking of get TONS OF TRAFFIC!.. joeyates.com for fish lures, and woodnet.net forum for collectible woodworking tools are just 2 examples with much success encountered on both |
With your own website you have FULL control over all events.
With other sites you don't.
Remember in the early days ebay was the place to go.
Thousands went there and it was good for them.
Then slowly the changes came.
Those who used ebay only either adapted or failed.
Those who had websites as well had alternatives to use.
It's the same with all the other auction sites.
You've no control over their future directions so you should not be totally reliant on them. |
Congrats ! What do you sell, and which are your favorite sites??
Good to hear positive news and helpful advice always welcome.
Etsy has been picking up for me, and Amazon a good place for used electronics. |
you can just google "how to creat your own website" and get plenty of good info.
the key is to have multiple selling venues.
i sell alternative energy products.
as stated earlier, i sell EVERYWHERE except ebay.
no one site pays the bills. all the sites together do pay the bills.
i have quadrupled the traffic to my own websites by working hard on quality backlinks.
more visitors = more sales
the easy days of making a living on the net are long over. to make it now, you have to dig in, study internet marketing and work hard with a well thought out plan.
| I'm happy to be able to say the same thing: no eBay, and better sales on ArtFire, Etsy, and eCrater. Good luck to all in 2012. |
