I have a few LP records in near mint condition and thought I would take a look at what a The 5th Dimension LIVE vinyl LP record was priced at since I have one I would like to sell.. there are sellers that have a BIN of $27.95 for a near mint condition The 5th Dimension LIVE record and obviously they are not having much luck selling at that price when a similar conditioned record is not getting a bid at $4.95 with 11 hours to go before the auction ends.. my point is when someone needs to sell things, do you price the item 5 or maybe 10 times what a similar item can be purchased for and hope to hook the occasional sucker, or do you set the price below the going rate of $4.95 to hope for a bid and a sale to keep the lights on?

BIN Prices of other sellers have no relevance to us.
Until it's sold it means nothing.
Our BIN prices are set at the price we want - end of.
You'll be suprised what some are willing to pay.
We've listed stuff at way above what is normal for us and it's sold.
Other stuff at bargain prices just sits there for months.
Doesn't matter though. Sooner or later someone will come along and want it.
Not a problem on all the sites except ebay when you've constant 30 day fees to pay until its sold.

When we used to try and sell on ebay our BIN's were around 15% higher than on the other sites we still use just to cover the extra costs.

(we also had a time when we listed at 15% below our norm just to see what would happen. Exactly the same, very few views and very few sales)

We've now reached the stage where it's no longer worth the hassle to sell there as all the other sites have improved more than enough for us.

Most of the old LP collectibles I've sold have been at bluejay.com or at local live auctions where they sell for a lot more than they would at ebay.

I've made a lot more $$ this fall at local live auctions than all of the online stores and auctions combined. :D

Could it be that buyers are finally noticing all the bad press ebay are getting and going elsewhere nowadays.

There was a time when everything they did resulted in good press.
Nowadays everything they do is resulting in bad press.

yes, but how long can a person wait? I don't get a supplemental government check, I receive no inheritance trust fund check every month, if I don't sell enough items, FAST ENOUGH I don't eat...I'm aware many of you here are getting checks and only count on internet sales as a supplement to your SSI or whatever, but I am only 56 years old and selling stuff is all I do to earn money..

oh, I am doing ok selling, I have been averaging around 1700.00 a month the last 120 days ON eBAY ALONE, (not counting the other forums and message boards I sell on) I just have a bone to pick with the comments I've read about how you can stick almost obnoxious "prices" on your merch and just sit it out and wait for that sucker to pay the price.. the comments I've read earlier seem to suggest that certain sellers are ruining the eBay market by not jacking up the price of their item way beyond what the comparable market is for said item and then wait it out.. a couple posters here have said don't succumb to the reasonable profit method with good positive cash flow approach or method I can implement and make it work, simply by living in an area of the country where the correct type of collectibles and antiques for resell can be acquired relatively inexpensively when compared to more urban parts of the country..

for instance, there is a member here who has a $467.50 price tag on an unbranded (no maker's name) turkish looking coffee pot.. would you pay that? does that sound reasonable? it would be nice to wait it out if I had that turkish looking coffee pot in my inventory, and receive $467.50 for it and laugh all the way to the bank thinking about the fool who paid that, and I would want to get a snapshot of the guy or gal to have, to glance at them every once in awhile, just for laughs, but I can't wait that long to pull in some cash..bills need to be paid..

pie4himm there are idiots out there who MIGHT purchase some sort of Turkish looking coffee urn.

Afterall look at the idiots on TV who are shooting and trampling one another to buy $180 tennis shoes at local malls, merely because these shoes look like the one's Michael Jordan wore nearly 10 years ago. News media reported people stood out in the freezing rain for nearly 36 hours to pay for these TENNIS SHOES.
Now these same shoes are showing up on ebay for around $500.

yes, I just got befuddled when I went to "the river" to order some more Orville Redenbacher Tender White popcorn by the case, since we eat so much of it.. for the same deal 6 count X 6 boxes I bought for $17.67 March 10,2011 is now $79.00!!!!!!!! it will sit on their shelf indefinitely, cause I won't give that kinda money and the funny part is I can't figure out why it has went up in price over 400% since only last spring... by the way, I got it at wally world for about the same price I paid last spring just a few minutes ago, along with some glazed pecans and pocket t-shirts

A completed auctions search shows what people are willing to pay. Simple as that!

Key word...CORN. Corn has tripled in price since ethanol was placed in our fuel tanks.
Personally I do not care if my boots (I don't wear tennis shoes) are signed or not. They get just as scuffed and muddy whether they are signed or not.

Good point Mike!

right, and condition means nothing I guess? a guy can set his stuff "in" too high on fixed price, but as MIKEHATESEBAY said, you can always have an AUCTION format and set the item in low to see the true worth of the widget..

If you think its bad on ebay you should see how bad its at estate auctions - you do not have a friend at the auction. I could write book on the scams and sh*t I've seen pulled based upon attending hundreds of these sales. These are the places where people to get stock for ebay sales so they are willing to anything short of killing you to get it. I've seen cars vandilized, theft, fraud.

LOL, one of these little trouble makers is going to get a surprise soon - I let it be known through the grapevine that I thought he was an idiot and I bragged about bidding him up at an auction - which I did do just to prove he doesn't know all he thinks he knows (I made him pay $40 for an item that sells for less than $10 on ebay since I happen to collect these items).

This little jerk likes to spread rumors about other bidders and such to get rid of the competition. I knew he would fall for my bait - hes been trying to brag about such and such operations of his to prove he is not so dumb. LOL, I've found his ebay account(s), the antique stores he consigns things at, and other activities. Why? Because he makes more money from this than his job and during all that time - almost 20 years - he has paid no taxes on this income. I think he'll soon be surprised by the state and federal tax officials. From what I've seen I think this guy's father and mother have also not paid taxes on this income, but I am sure that will take care of itself.
