Google announces privacy changes across products
Google said Tuesday it will follow the activities of users across e-mail, search, YouTube and other services, a shift in strategy that is expected to invite greater scrutiny of its privacy and competitive practices.
The information will enable Google to develop a fuller picture of how people use its growing empire of Web sites. Consumers will have no choice but to accept the changes.

How to choose what you share with Google
Google’s decision to unify 60 of its services under one privacy policy has set off renewed interest in how, exactly, Google account holders have their privacy settings configured. The data integration component of the company’s new policy governs mostly what your Google accounts share with each other, and can’t be configured service by service. But Google users have control over some of what they share with the company itself through their accounts.

"Congressmen search for answers from Google"
Eight Congressmen yesterday sent a written inquiry to Google Inc. seeking information about the company’s revised privacy policy. The revised policy, which will be introduced in March, makes clear that the search giant is monitoring a consumer’s actions across various Google products so that it can better target ads at consumers across multiple web-enabled devices.
“While Google suggests that the purpose of this shift in policy is to make the consumer experience simpler, we want to make sure it does not make protecting consumer privacy more complicated,” said the letter, which was signed by Reps. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.), chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations; Joe Barton (R-Texas), co-chairman of the Congressional Bipartisan Privacy Caucus; and Edward Markey (D-Mass), co-chairman of the Congressional Bipartisan Privacy Caucus, among others.

dealing with Google is very simple - don't
except for the OS on my computer i don't buy anything Microsoft
Apple is now just as bad Microsoft so no money to them either
there's enough free software and web service alternatives that using any of their pay/log-in required services is unnecessary |

Google Gives Search a Refresh
Google Inc. is giving its tried-and-true Web-search formula a makeover as it tries to fix the shortcomings of today's technology and maintain its dominant market share.
Over the next few months, Google's search engine will begin spitting out more than a list of blue Web links. It will also present more facts and direct answers to queries at the top of the search-results page.

"Does Google Deserve To Be Labeled Evil?"
Is it just me or does Google seem to be getting a lot of negative press lately? There seem to be an irregular amount of stories about Google and whether or not it’s “evil” making the rounds. There is even a Facebook page named, “Google is Evil“!
First, let’s look at what Google actually says. Here’s the company’s code of conduct. The part about evil says:
“Don’t be evil.” Googlers generally apply those words to how we serve our users. But “Don’t be evil” is much more than that. Yes, it’s about providing our users unbiased access to information, focusing on their needs and giving them the best products and services that we can. But it’s also about doing the right thing more generally — following the law, acting honorably and treating each other with respect.
The Google Code of Conduct is one of the ways we put “Don’t be evil” into practice. It’s built around the recognition that everything we do in connection with our work at Google will be, and should be, measured against the highest possible standards of ethical business conduct. We set the bar that high for practical as well as aspirational reasons: Our commitment to the highest standards helps us hire great people, who then build great products, which in turn attract loyal users. Trust and mutual respect among employees and users are the foundation of our success, and they are something we need to earn every day.
