Hi all,

Ebay has been offering free listings (up to 50,000) every few weeks for the last month and a half. Medved stats for January show a pre-free-listing auction count at ~162M, which of course rocketed up to ~178M on 1/12 (the first day of the offering). Assuming most sellers, like me, spread out those free listings over 1,3,5,and 7 day to maximize exposure, the count dropped as expected on 1/19.

What is odd is that it dropped down to 160M, about 2M less than before the free listings were offered. Why?

Actually ebay has been offering free listing days for well over a month and a half. They seem to be doing this about 2 times a month in order to boost the listing count and perhaps generate some FVF/PP fees to impress their investors.

Now with the new policy allowing it's employees to sell on ebay it makes sense their own employees know when the free listing days are coming and they merely wait until it's free to list, rather than pay their own company listing fees:
