There was an interesting discussion on one of the eBay boards recently about whether the "Item Location" on a listing was misleading, because it showed as "US," but the item, a cell phone case, actually shipped from China.

“My daughter bought a cell phone case that was listed as ‘Item Location: US’ but turns out it's actually in Hong Kong,” said the poster, “wroberts69.” “One of the big China sellers,” she added. She said she was checking on the item on behalf of her daughter, because it hadn't arrived yet.

She said she checked the seller's other listings and half of them or more showed a US location; the rest showed the true location. “I emailed the seller and he did provide tracking info for the item, and it did indeed ship via China Post. No apology…no explanation for his misleading listing practices. Just the tracking info.”

What I want to know is what king of deal USPS has struct with foreign post offices to make shipping here so cheap? Historically most other industrialized countries have had shipping fees higher than the U.S. I'd like to know what kind of cut USPS is getting on these packages, if any?

I recently ordered a book from a Amazon subsidary in the UK as it was out of print and no one had it here except an overpriced ebay seller. It was shipped form the UK for $3.99 and was here in about 1 1/2 weeks - cheaper shipping than the overpriced ebayer wanted.

USPS actually has offices in China where the shipping is actually all USPS and get US tracking. Take 1000 small items, pack them in air freight container and its financially doable. Likely same for bigger UK sellers.

Well..turning things around a bit- I sold an item that was going to an AIRLINES in California- It showed that it had arrived at the post office there, but never showed 'delivered'- when I clicked on the 'customer service' email address (in Paypal) It came up in Japanese!!

Yes- I called Ebay to find out about it- The Ebay customer service worker knew ALL about this company as he had sold to them as well- He informed me that the items go from the California airlines to Japan-

He DID immediately get my funds released (that Paypal was holding- as I am still a below-standard seller) Yes- HE had the power to do that. (release my funds) Betty Lou

shopamerica - here are their current IDs - flight2ams, flight2bos, flight2cdg, flight2cts, flight2fuk, flight2hnd, flight2iad, flight2icn, flight2kix, flight2lax, flight2lhr, flight2nrt, flight2nyc, flight2ord, flight2pvg, flight2sfo, flight2sin, flight2syd,

there is also a Russian version of this, but they are Russian expat couple living/working here accepting deliveries as normal at the US address and reshipping to russia.

i also get courier address all the time for the middle east and Latin America. couriers are the best to deal with because once they have it, your obligation ends. ebay does not work with them or protect them as they seem to for 'shopamerica'
