www.bestbidding.com

Best Bidding has a professional appearance, however, the categories are referenced as separate internet domains and tend to confuse the viewer with the prefix "Best". Site navigation is clumsy when checking category listings. Where there are no category listings, the content section of the webpage is empty, and there is no return button back to the category listings.

auctions.yahoo.com

Yahoo's auction site features the typical auction-site categories. The site is a spin-off from Yahoo.com and the format reflects this bare-bones look. The main Yahoo Auction site page sports a 99-cent No Reserve Showcase, Featured Auctions, and Spotlight section.

Worth noting:
* a unique feature at Yahoo! is the Yahoo! Auction alerts that can be sent via Yahoo! Messenger.

www.epier.com

ePier has successfully jam-packed many usable links and featured items onto their front page. Clearly, ePier wishes to provide auction site information to the users of ePier, and with a link to the ePier "Sales History", viewers can learn the volume of sales and other activity at this auction site, such as negative feedback for sellers, total sales dollars per day, etc. Aside from the basic auction site features, ePier provides a Featured Sellers box showing seller IDs with feedback, a User Gallery, and Top 5 Users section. An additional nifty feature is a prominent front page link to the ePier Seller Of The Day.

Worth noting:
* A Top 5 Users section, with a link to the auction listings of those users (typically sellers listing a volume of auction items)
* A "What's New" section on ePier's front page, allowing viewers to see the latest improvements or features.

www.tradersoup.com

Tradersoup auction site has a wordy front page because the front page design is focused on the category listings. Although the Traderoup logo reads "Buy Sell Trade Auction", there is no indication that this auction site permits trading or negotiation-purchases. The main focus on the front page of Tradersoup is the category listing of auctions, with little to catch-the-eye except words and an item count within each category listed. Below the category listing, the viewer can see a small group of Featured Auctions.

Featured items and Featured Search results are easily viewed with the basic information and small thumbnail photograph. The site has an interesting Auction section enabling the viewer to select types of auctions to review, such as "Red Hot Auctions" or "Going Going Gone Auctions". (Tradersoup.com is growing at a fast pace, many E-bay sellers and buyers are joining this online auction site.)

Worth Noting:
* There are no FAQs available, nor is there a readily-accessible Fee schedule on any final value selling fees
* Rating/feedback count is determined with individual items sales, not unique buyer/seller.
* User Profile easy to review and shows current total of auction listings, website URL (if applicable), total posts in site forum.

Short summary about the site by the owner

As the name suggests we're a games specific auc tion site. We spent a good 6-8 months listening and learning about how we could improve on current sites and build a service that would better serve gamer's requirements.
We have a 100% no Spam and no Piracy policy, complete with acknowledgement from ELSPA (www.elspa.com) to back these claims up. Piracy in the videogames auction market is rife and something gamers (buyers) are fed up with.
We launched to the public in June this year and have received plenty of positive press in the gaming community. Our highlight to date was the successful listing and subsequent sale of a rare videogame that fetched $1200 (US) to a collector in the Middle East, this was one sale that showed the calibre of members we've attracted to date.
We're a very forward thinking site, we know the games market and we would more than welcome any comments, questions or opinions. We listen to comments and make changes where appropriate.

I'm checking out these sites, and they appear woefully berift of any bids on products. Yahoo does well - but since eBay has pulled no punches, I wouldn't be surprised if they pull the same thing in the near future. I'd rather go with a smaller site - I guess I'm on my own here. This just sucks all around. I was thinking today that if I just hold out over at eBay and make it apparent somehow in my listings that my handling charges are going to have to reflect the fee increase in order to stay in business, that I'll just have to suck it up. But that's only if there's more buyers coming round. It's been so lame lately....I have no idea which way to turn. I just got into this when I left work a few months ago, and was so proud to have 80 positive feedbacks. I've been educating myself on collectables and antiques, looking into getting my dealer license to not have to pay those extraordinary (20% +) premiums at auctions. Now with eBay pulling this, I'm getting hit front and back. Looks like I better start looking for that server gig soon...

I have tried epier.com and overstock.com and didn't do well at all. However, I'm not giving up. What we are experiencing right now is a revolution in it's infancy. With time, leadership, enough media attention and some kind of organization, we'll hopefully find a good auction site.

I have been having SOME luck on ioffer and Bidville. They are both slow, but I have made sales. I strongly recommend that you at least check out ioffer. Lots of ebay refugees there!

I know some of the other auction sites may seem slow and small right now but I think people are selling as much as they can on ebay until the price increase. After feb 18th I think we will start seeing the other auction sites pickup.

Don't give up.

Check out this site, it shows how busy some sites are becoming since ebay annouced their fee increase. It doesn't show them all but hopefully at some point it will add more.
You'll also notice ebay auction listings are actually going down some.
What I really like though is looking at the sell through rate...
EBay really doesn't have such a great sell thru rate that we shouldn't be willing to give them up.
It is at best only about 10% higher then I have had on Overstock.
Considering Overstock is only 4 months old.

Hi lammergeiernet,
Right now Overstock allows only those with American addresses to sell which I have... My husband is working here in Canada on a three year contract, it will probably be extended though :D

We have become to really like it here.

Hope this was not mentioned before and I'm doubling up.....

Just a note: Overstock and Meridian are offering a free 30 day trial of Meridian (like seller manager pro) after that it will cost $9.99 a month(same as the cost of your eFee store...just for comparison sake) AND along with that a seller for trying Meridian gets 60 days in FREE listings - (FVF's still apply) at Overstock - All profit/money in YOUR (the sellers) pocket!

Meridian can be found at: http://www.noblespirit.com/

A new auction site called wagglepop will be launching in February. Basic listings will be free with modestly priced upgrades. The CEO is a former ebay power seller who has a lot of computer/IT experience. So far they have over 2500 people signed up as sellers. Visit wagglepop.com to read about it. It is definitely a worthwhile alternative to ebay.

Here is a link that has more info about wagglepop.

I was just checking out some sites and really like the concept behind iOffer.com. I like the idea of being able to negotiate a price. For what I sell, they had a pretty decent list category. In fact, I found something on there that I might send an offer for...

Also, I sell video games and was looking at OnlineAuction.com and there wasn't even a category for video games. Don't know if this would be to my advantage or not. Will have to try it out and see :)
