Hi all, we are an eBay based company and want to get out of eBay or at least diversify our market. We have over 3050 items on eBay right now; our store is “toolgeneral”. We are a re-seller and have refurbished industrial equipment, electrical supplies, drills, mills, consumables and the proverbial kitchen sink. 95% of our items do not have a UPC or can be easily described or listed. I have played with SellingManager and BlackThorne half-heartedly. We need a multi-platform listing, managing, inventorying, warehouse location and multiuser engine to drive our company out of the clutches of eBay. I have looked at Vendio, Kyozou, Auctiva, Volusion, ShopSite, Zen, BigCommerce and a multitude of other and it all makes my head hurt. I want to know what platform has performed for you and why. I have most recently talked to Kyozou and their multi environment seems quite appealing, eBay, Amazon.com, a dedicated site in our name and other sites with items created from one control center being posted to all. I would very much like any and all input before I make a decision.

Best of luck and keep us updated!
may ebay die a slow, painful death!

1 - it is unlikely the amazon platform would be unsuitable for anything but brand new items in your niche. becuase of listing detail limitations it would be nearly impossible to create properly detailed descriptions using the amazon system that would not lead to issues with uninformed (idiot) buyers

2 - if i had you business i would have my own "store," but use it to drive direct phone or physical contact sales in order to limit web based misunderstandings

3 - becuase of what you sell, and based on your feedback, it appears you are headed down a similar road a bargainland was:

this is not a bad road. salvage, liquidation, used equipment are necessary and valuable businesses. but becuase you are not dealing one on one with customers you MUST do everything in your power to prevent problems up front. this means that yes you should take photos of every paint gun your selling, especially if they cost $275!

4 - i read your feedback. don't be prick in your replies to customers. it will only chase off new customers. bite your tongue, politely defend your actions and move on.

I would recommend finding an order manager software that fits your business and finding a shopping cart that will feed all of your products on your web site to different marketplaces. This can be done with the right shopping cart and order manager. There are a number of solutions out there, but I would stay away from any solutions that take a % of your sale.

First you will have to find a shopping cart you like and then find an order manager to manage all your orders from one place. Most programs these days can be programmed to work with whatever cart you plan to use, but I would recommend doing your research first on what solution fits best for your company.

Let me know if you have anymore questions or would like some recommendations.

I'm considering Frooition / Big Commerce but still doing research.

Are you leaning towards anyone yet?

Agree entirely with this. We should all use any reply to bad feedback an advertising oppurtunity and try to come across as fair and polite to any potential new customers rather than get in a slanging match with the old ones (who probably won't even see the reply anyway). A competitor of mine replied to a customer recently words to the effect that (over three sales), that 'she was the sort of person who was never happy and made her want to get out of the online business so she didn't have to deal with people like you'. Would you buy from this nasty person? I know I wouldn't.

Thanks intended for identifying that Rye Website is current! See, I was just talking about this with my buddy a couple of hours ago. That's coincidental speaking! I only love when that occurs. I love random expertise.
