eBay is holding a 1-day promotion for sellers on Thursday, March 22, 2012. Sellers without a Store subscription can list up to 50,000 auctions listings with Buy It Now and pay no insertion fees. Sellers who already qualify for 50 free monthly Auction-style listings and do not have an eBay Stores subscription can take advantage of this offer and still get their 50 free listings.

The offer applies to listings on eBay.com, eBay Motors Parts & Accessories and eBay Canada. Most categories are included. Per usual, only sellers whose accounts meet eBay's minimum seller performance standards are eligible.

Has anyone else noticed the drop off in traffic to your site or ebay etc with the stuffing in of FREE listings for auction. I'm seeing very little traffic as I can't make a living giving away things just to get free listings that don't sell. Am I the lone ranger out here?

I do not have 50,000 separate items to list anywhere but the last couple of times I did bother to list some items during their "free listing" offer during last fall I received no bids, offers or messages from interested browsers at ebay.
After a couple of times relisting, why bother if things don't sell, whether I pay or it's free to list.

I use the free listings. In these months really worked for me because 3 or 4 sales is better than zero.

Also I don't need to post manually. I use the Turbo Lister. It just chose the items and press a button.

Here's what I've noticed. If you look at the Auction Site Count page, before the 50,000 listing thing, the ebay count was around 145,000,000, give or take. Since then, it's now gained over 2.5 million auctions. So, that could explain what traffic is down for sellers in popular categories, where it's really becoming not worth the trouble of listing.

Sorry, I should have said 8 million auctions, not 2.5. Silly me, more coffee required!

I really think ebay is shooting itself in the foot with all these free listings.
traffic is falling everytime and the bids are fewer.A lot of the stuff put on smacks of desperation with far too high prices being asked for a realistic chance of a sale. This in turn turns lookers off, whats the point in trawling through loads of overpriced junk when there are other sites begging for traffic?.

Do free listings make eBay less repulsive?

Let's pause for a moment and consider the positive contributions
eBay has............nevermind, I think I'm going to throw up.

Quote -"LOL, I think ebay must think its Spring b.s. program and its other announcements such as free pictures were going to get people to pay listing fees. I still can't believe they called me to tell me about the Spring b.s. - they do really think their customers are a bunch of Stepford Wives or something - I think ebay managment must be using too much of that medical pot they have out there in California!"

I'm sorry but i had to laugh... They called me also yesterday. she ask me if i had time to talk.. i said no... she then said it will only be 5 minutes and not a question... like my no was not clear or clear enough.

At That point I got a bit pissed off and figured ok... I said hey listen to me.. I know TOTALLY all about your spring changes. "do you think we the sellers are idiots?"We can clearly see a price increase and no we are not stupid.

She said she would add that in a report to her superiors and after she listened to ME for 5 minutes she was happy to get off the phone. I figure that call cost Ebay at least $15 and certainly had no purpose other than to rub it in that they can do whatever they want to us.

My increased fee cost due to the spring updates will be approx $50 a month. I am in the process of reducing my store inventory to reflect that $60 and moving the stock to Bidstart and my website.

Interesting! They don't offer a classic 7 days auction promo with BIN. Now it is a full BIN promotion with a max of 5000 items.

It looks like somebody in eBay is making another test run.

I received my email a few minutes ago.. dated yesterday... telling me on my alt account of the special. My store account did not receive the email even tho stores qualify for the discount also. It actually would be good for stores to close all items out and relist them over the next few days. a savings of $50 per 1000 items on anything date expiring soon.

I think this is a great deal for non store owners and certainly something you want to do. As for store owners.. screwed again... search will be 50% or less visable with the month long listings durations and search loss will most likely result in sales loss to match the 50%. Auction format sales are Horrid these days so I guess Ebay decided to screw the store sales up also. we will see.

Free listings often result in overpriced junk on Ebay. My purchasing on Ebay the past few months is down to 5% of what i was spending and ythat has only resulted in crap that was miss ID'd and was faulty bad items that arrived.

Store owners are screwed, we are the only ones paying fees so unfair competition I pay $50 a month plus $50 per 1000 listings to what? get my search results be lowered to below the free fixed price listings? I suggest this will result in a lot of peaved off store sellers and reduced paid listings. To add this on top of taking the TRS fee reduction of 20% from the store sellers = a bad day for store sellers on Ebay. As stated elsewhere My fees go up $50 next month due to TRS loss. My feedback and DSR are great so this is nothing but a slap in the face.

The good news is... Alts should be doing great soon and you know the only reason Ebay is pretending to reduce fees is because they see the alts doing better and basically offering free listings.

Me i have reduced my inventory 50% in my store and sent to alts and my website and since i always have everything on CSV files.. I just listed it all free on an alt on Ebay. very very slow this morning listing so i guess this free offering will be huge.

Who cares?
Having an upfront listing fee filters out a lot of crap or overpriced products. eBay's sell-through rate sucks! I would rather pay a little up front than be dinged on my shipping costs...
