My wife was featured in a local paper for her bead making and we'd love to use the online version of this paper in her various "about me" pages, resume reference etc.
I just can't figure out how to save an entire website page as an image.
When I do a google search for these instructions i get a whole buncha ads for programs that can do it etc - but no mapped out instructions for doing it. Although I did run across one site that says Adobe PhotoShop can do it... and I have Adobe Photo Shop 5.0 - but nothing that i can find in the help menu tells me how this can be done
So what I need to do is "image" an entire webpage - making it a jpg, bmp or any image file...... can anyone help?
thanks!

My screenshot program has some tweaking options that might do it. Do you have a link?
Congrats to your wife!
Edit: I use screenhunter 4.0 if you want to check it out...it's free! |

Thanks so much for offering to help!
I searched for and downloaded the screenhunter program - it seems easy enough to use and I captured it a couple different times... but I can't seem to improve the image - the text comes out very grainy and illegible.
So I'm gonna go ahead and PM you the link - and yeah, if you can help out that'd be awesome!

Hi Marty,
I know how this is done as I had to do a couple of them recently. It's basically a cut and paste into the right program. Here's the instructions:
"Making a screenshot is a simple process, and an easy way to explain to others any problems you may be having with a website. Here's how you can make screenshots of anything on your computer:
On a PC, press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard (you may have to press ALT or some other function button along with "Print Screen", depending on your keyboard). Then, open up Paint, Photoshop, or some other graphics program, and create a new document. Paste the contents of the clipboard into the new document, and save the file in the format of your choice. "
On a Mac, press Apple—shift—3 simultaneously. The screenshot will be produced as a file, called "Picture 1 (or some other number, depending on how many screenshots you've taken)" in your main hard drive. It will be a PICT file, which you can open in Photoshop, QuickTime, or another graphics program.
Hope that works for you,
Shelley |

Ok Shelley - I tried it that way - and yer right, that was easy. But...
I guess I can only save the screenshot (whatever is viewable in the current screen)?
and...
I just cant seem to get text to appear sharp. It appears grainy and illegible - just like the program beckysthisnthat suggested.... is this the thorn with the rose and I should just deal with it?
I really appreciate the help

| You can check the box for rectangular area and then crop what you want to take a screenshot of. Is it bigger than the active window? |

Yeah - her article occupies the whole page (two or three screenshots)
Anyway... I solved the problem somewhat by adjusting the text view in my browser tools.
I may have to just save three seperate images to capture it all and make it legible... now I just gotta figure out if PhotoShop will allow me to merge three images into one and then maybe resize
I kinda hate learning new stuff lol (sign of getting older i suppose)
thanks for all your help!

You might have to play with it a bit, but try a program called Trentstitch for stitching the images together...another freebie.
Here's an axample of what I'm talking about with pics side-by-side, but you can also do it top to bottom, I believe.

| Just checked and you can do a vertical...just be sure they are all the same size in width for vertical so that it will stitch properly. |

Sorry Marty, I'm afraid that's the extent of my knowledge on screenshots! LOL! Hopefully one of the more techie people will help you sort that part out!

I've been using a free image utility named Irfanview for years. It can screen capture, edit images, crop, resize, save to almost any image format at any quality you choose. With some add-ons, you can even play music, play videos, and much more. I've always liked it because it doesn't require much memory like higher-end image editors.
It does not "paint" though.
You can check it out here.

Marty...
what most people don't understand about screenshots is that it is actually taking a screenshot at the resolution that you have set on your monitor, and,or, the resolution that the original post was made, more importantly is that if you have the screenshot sent to the clipboard instead of a specified file you are only dealing with default clipboard resolutions..200dpi..still not crisp enough..... graphics for example are usually, not always, posted on the web for fast download @ 72dpi pretty low as clarity goes.....& most monitors are based @ 96dpi..
But...some programs allow to set different resolutions to screenshots..like Corel Capture ( CorelDraws capture program) & you can also specify a directory & file type (like .tiff instead of .jpg)..but you are still dealing with your monitors settings & the images original dpi settings...
In Photoshop you will be able to "crisp" the screenshot, but only to a degree..( try the UnSharp filter ) ..merging the files is a breese in PhotoShop also..if you have PS experience......
the web & monitors use Anti Aliasing..which diffuses all edges so the are smooth.. but if captured and enlarged they wil be blurry....
...
what I do when I need crisp text from a website is Highlight the text, copy to clipboard..then paste into a vector program, again like CorelDraw which will then allow me to convert to a font that is on my system...you will lose some of the formating, but can rearrange the text back by playing with it...right click on your web page graphics & save & insert them into this file & WhaLaa!!...Crisp text...
Wish I could help more...
If you post the URL where the article is..I'll see what I can do for ya... |

Whoa.... that is a wealth of information - and quite helpful!
thanks for clarifying that... my monitor settings are great, but knowing the small town publisher that posted this web-article: I'm sure the original resolution was at minimum!
Sounds like a day's project for me - I may be better off just scanning the darn newspaper article - giving it that authentic paper look anyway!
