I'm sure the "race" isn't over and numbers move around from day to day but Yahoo now is in 4th place instead of 3rd. Bidville is, for the moment, in number 3 spot. The listings total has hovered just under a million for awhile now. Maybe soon Bidville will surpass that milestone soon even during the dog days of summer.
I know that negative people will remind us that Bidville once was around 3 million listings. That was past and this is now. Negative people will always be negative as that is their character.
Good news should be shared! |

Yahoo needs to promote their auction site. I had hoped they would when they came back fee-free, but I've seen no evidence that they plan to do so. Still, just like BV, one can maintain sales with self-promotion.
BV never had 3 million listings... They had 3 million items in the format as seen below. If a Seller listed 100 as the quantity available in a dutch auction, then 100 items were counted in the totals on the home page. They changed the word listings to items when they were looking for a Buyer. It pumped things up quite nicely, yes?
3,000,892 items listed
in 7,269 categories
and 642 stores!

I'm not being negative.. These are just facts. Have a good day! |

Yahoo v Bidville????????
When the eBay/Yahoo! partnership really kicks in, I will offer all Yahoo! auction users who transfer their listings to Kaqoo, free LIFETIME membership, for ever, no strings attached, I will put 1 Million Dollars in their account to be used for the auction listings on Kaqoo. If they ever spend 1 Million Dollars, I will increase throughout their lifetime.
Let's face it, eBay/Yahoo! will show only eBay auctions.
Not transferable!!!!!!!!!!
Best regards
Alan |

I believe that Online Auction's numbers are counted this way as well, although it appears to be the only site that is done so.
At the end of the day, watching listing counts is a waste of time, and especially in this case, it appears to mean nothing. Sales, traffic and buyers... these things that matter. |

For me the OA numbers mean very little. Besides, it's not like they're evenly spread in the variety department. It's nice to have a lot of listings, but as a buyer it's nice not to see a bunch of empty categories. This is where ebay trumps everybody else and it's a tough nut to crack.
I mean, 2,000,000 listings could be 2,000,000 listings of Matchbox cars! Just an example, folks  |

I pop in here now and then and always take a peek at the auction site counts, but I agree the numbers game doesn't mean all that much. BV now doesn't let you do identical auction listings. When they stopped the multiple pages of the same items their number count dropped dramatically. I don't know if Yahoo lets you list multiples or not. I only tried a few items there with no luck and I rarely even look at that site now.
I do look at OnlineAuctions only hoping to see more sales. But every time I do a search for closed items in the categories I sell in, there appears to be absolutely no sales at all. I'd be willing to upgrade my account there back to a seller if I felt there was any hope in recouping my $8.00. And I have noticed that they DO allow multiple items, so I'm not so sure how that plays out with the number of listings. |

Yahoo MAY have a problem with duplicate auctions inflating listing count, too. I looked at Yahoo's Terms of Service and they, too, prohibit duplicate listings. But in scanning the ACTUAL listings I found blatant duplications where one item is in many categories.
When a visitor notices a problem they can post a complaint on a NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH. If 3 people complain about the same item, someone on Yahoo staff looks at it and can then delete it. Reasonable enough IF categories have many visitors. Your results may vary.
Bidville is probably not immune, either, I suppose. Enforcing rules can be lax on these venues due to lack of employee "enforcers". |

| You might want to look at the listings stats again. Bidville has passed the 1 million mark. Yahoo is dropping like a stone. All is well with the world! |

Hello! Well, I like Yahoo and Bidville. I list on both. I do better on Yahoo because, I think, I've been there longer and have more repeat customers who actually look for me and the items I offer. I tend to sell to the same buyers over and over again.
Bidville is unfortunately slower on the repeat buyer end for me. People tend to buy once and that's it. But, again, I like both sites - both have good and bad points.
I just wish more people would buy at either one of them instead of ebay. More advertising would help buyers learn that there are other sites out there with really good items and sellers.
I can't turn on the TV or radio without seeing or hearing about ebay. That's what the others really need, constant, in-you-face national press.
If Yahoo and Bidville teamed up, the world would be a better place - Yahoo's name and Bidville's features would work very well together. JMHO, Julie |

Now this sounds like a plan -- Yahoo + Bidville. Bidville does have some really nice features, a bulklister that I think is the best I've used of this type, plus it's a standalone site. I think one of Yahoo's biggest problems is not giving the auction site it's own identity.
The only problem I've ever had about Bidville it it's lack of national advertising. It has just managed to squander every opportunity to become a major site right behind eBay. Wow, a merger like this could be something really good -- but, again, only if they advertise. And Yahoo seems to lack in this, too.
Of course, a merger like this would no doubt make eBay sit up and take major notice and try to take them both over  |

i wish auction shoppers would diversify. it's not like they're getting great deals at ebay. but they're so damn chicken about using other sites--like there are no scams on ebay!
