|

I got a "question from eBay member" email today that ALMOST had me fooled... Member@ebey.com was the dead giveaway, but I had hit reply in my email program, THAT's how convincing it was!
At any rate, this close call has me wondering if I should go ahead and have that toolbar that ebay says will clearly warn me of these threats. And I figured the users on this board were the perfect folks to ask about experiences.
First the obvious question - is it glitchy?
Secondly - does the darn thing REALLY work?
Third - is it bulky? I have the google toolbar and it's been flawless to block pop-ups - if the ebay bar is too big, than I will have less of a window for viewing
Finally - if I hate it, can be easily uninstalled?
Of course I'd also like to hear about any issues I hadn't considered.
thanks gang!

| As a general rule, I do NOT load toolbars from any place...I've read that they often contain spyware, which I can live without!!! :D |

Hi Marty,
I, for one, do use the ebay toolbar and I find it quite handy. It tells you if you're on a non-ebay site and you can do searches and go to "My Ebay" right from the toolbar. It also catches you if you try to respond to a spoof ebay email, which I get a million of, and asks you if you want to report the site etc. I find that to be a good feature because these spammers/scammers are getting better and better and I'm sure they manage to get personal information on a lot of people.
As far as the uninstall, it's in a drop drown menu right from the toolbar so should be easy.
Anyway, I haven't had any trouble with it, and my spy checker software doesn't seem to mind it either.

It will also slow down your connection and PC a bit. Anything that you have running will do that. So why add the burden?
I would say it is a waste of resources! |

JUST our opinion..but, when we had the ebay
tool bar, we HAD spyware popping up all over the
place, and everyday until we took the bar down.
We DO use the GOOGLE toolbar and have had
no problems, (at least that we can see...YET!) :)

Thanks folks...
I think I'm gonna go with NOT downloading the darn thing.
Besides, if it doesnt appear in My eBay Messages - then it's a spoof email.

Another reason to not download it --
There have been threads on the eBay stores board about the toolbar NOT showing obvious spoofs as bad. This happens for days at a time.
So why bother if the thing doesn't work 1/2 the time ( like the rest of E) ??!!

| With any toolbar you're inviting spyware IMHO |
