eBay is banning sellers from requesting payment through Google Checkout. The online auction giant updated its Safe Payments policy this week to add Google's new payment service, Google Checkout to its list of online payment methods not permitted on eBay.

A spokesperson for Google said it has no restrictions regarding marketplace use. "We want to work with everybody," she said on Wednesday.

I wonder what they would do if you put in a blurb...smoothly flowing to reduce detection...

I prefer paypal or USPS money orders. Shipping is via USPS blah blah. If you have any questions about other payment options or shipping, please feel free to email me as I try to accomodate when I can.

For instance, the only reason that NeTeller is excluded is that NeTeller can be used for gambling. Paypal accepted gambling restrictions (except in Europe), which would lead to a large number of people abandoning PayPal if they could use NeTeller on ebay.

They will relent if 1) Google files a "constraint of trade" anti-trust lawsuit (but that will take years), or 2) Enough people leave ebay over this issue (unlikely, because there will always be a fresh crop of suckers).

Hmmm... I wonder...

What if I posted both PayPal and Google Checkout buttons on my own website (and on Blujay.com), and made the Google Checkout slightly cheaper for the customer?

Reckon I would get slapped by PayPal?

As long as it isn't on Ebay, I would doubt they would even pay attention. If Google takes off well, you may be slapping Paypal before they have a chance to slap you!

Right now I have in my payment policy that I accept PP. BUT I don't put my PP addy in the listing. That way they have to wait for an invoice before they can check out.

That serves several purposes.

1) I get a chance to make an upsell offer. I'm at about 1/3rd of my eBay sales getting something more from my web site thru the upsell.

2) I usually send a "personal" invoice first rather than thru the eBay or PP system. That way I'm free to say what I want in the invoice. I can say "cash" in there and now I can add the Gpay in there too.

I will probably redesign my invoice template a bit to make Gpay the most prominant and maybe offer a discount if they use it.

There's usually a way around eBay's heavy handed tactics.

eBay Gets The Lame Award for Google Checkout Ban

Hard to know where to start on all the eBay news today. Paypal president out, possibly for performance. Rookie Skype president Rajiv Dutta parachuting in to save day (and who will run Skype, another critical eBay division, albeit one that eBay shouldn't have bought, now that Rajiv's headed back to CA?).
A detailed analyst report (Mark Mahaney) concluding that Google Checkout is actually a viable threat to PayPal. And an unbelievably lame response on eBay's part to Google Checkout, which was to forbid sellers from using it.

Only one word is required to riff on the Google Checkout ban: pathetic. "OOOOooo, scary, a new product that our customers might actually prefer. Quick--outlaw it!"
Not the best way to win customer hearts and minds. And along with the management changes, a graphic illustration that the fear quotient is running high.

IMO, eBay is fast becoming the nazi-esque dictator of the north.

If you look to the new details eBay safepayments policy for the USA

They are now allowing Money Bookers

Canadian hyperwallet and even back peddled a long timeago on "Canadian Tire Money" and now even include some money transfer systems for Latin America and India. Why? These methods are popular and eBay caved.

A year after the bully of a safe payment policy eBay has caved on several popular payment systems mostly ones most popular with Canada ,Europe ,Asia and Latin America.

The only big player they seem to be tough on banning is e-Gold but that is understandable because it favours the seller in alot of ways and alot of con-artists are taking advantage of this.

With the exception of a few good ones like Net-teller most on the list should be banned and alot of the good ones are back.

Google-Checkout is currently for USA sellers only and eBay is playing tough right now but with Googles linking it to web advertisements and special offers its going to ramp up with retailers fast and become popular.

eBay may not cave in the USA.......but apparently its got weak knee's in Europe ,Asia and even in niche markets like Canada :P

eBay will eventually cave to Google Checkout , certainly outside of the USA when the checkout goes international.

From that list I know even Ikobo itself does not allow for merchant transaction as they left that game a few years ago for personal use only (without notice to its clients btw) :x

Goldmoney.Liberty Dollars & E-Gold have some issues that may annoy federal governments and/or are too pro-seller for feebay.

Stormpay and greenzap well enough said

Xcoin as choice of onlineauction.com is not going to win friends with the Feebay

I say its only a matter of time before Google-Checkout roars on to the bay
