Well, I'm thinking about checking out Google Checkout and offering it. The only auction site I list on has integrated Google Checkout is Quty. I saw this yesterday and thought, wow, good idea. At this point as a buyer and seller I'll continue to be with PayPal for some time, but it looks like I'll be adding Google Checkout, especially if a lot of sites are going to integrate this payment system. Right now I also rely on the PayPal debit Mastercard for my business. The other PayPal fees are somewhat cushioned by the money market dividends and the cash-back percentages whenever I use the debit card.

But as a an additional payment offering for customers, definitely, I'm going to be in with Google Checkout.

I would say if you can't use PayPal, then obviously Google would be good, but keeping in mind that this service is brand new and will take a short while to catch on, maybe Bidpay, which is back. I used that service as a buyer but then stopped when I was with a bank that only had Mastercard logo debit cards and Bidpay started only accepting Visa credit and Visa logo cards. I don't know if they changed back since re-opening the service. Moneybookers I signed up with a while ago but never used it.

Other sellers and buyers would have to give you other suggestions. But I wouldn't go absolutely crazy offering a ton of services either.

But, like I said, Quty is now offering Google Checkout and I think it's definitely worth looking into. Remember, eBay does not allow this service and that alone might be a plus in offering it

We have used Google checkout and love the set up. We used it with google base and sent a link to the item that a customer wanted through email and let them by through there. I love Google checkout, but make sure you don't have them charge the card until the product is shipped.

I would be interested in "Google Checkout" although they currently do not accept Canadian users.

I just don't know. I am set up with it through what I have listed on GBase, but it looks like in order to use it otherwise, I have to give one of 2 things...a Federal TaxID, only have a state ID or my social security number. Call me old-fashioned, out of the loop or whatever else comes to mind, but my SS is almost the most sacred thing I have. I'll pay the fees and stay with PP for now.

Hi memfoamfurniture,

I have read the Google Checkout policies and am unable to determine something. Thought you might be able to help. Does they handle the funds the way PayPal does? Example: Accept funds from buyer while taking their fee and holding it for you until you transfer it to your account. Or, do they deposit it each time a payment comes in - how do they get their fees. Once I have this understanding, I would like to finish signing up. Thanks for any response.
Thanks again,
Rosemary

Hi Rosemary,

I'd be happy to help with this. Google checkout is handled like a merchant account and is very strict. You must ship items before you can get them to follow through on a charge. The charging process happens in this order:

1. Google authorizes customer's charge card.
2. You ship item to customer
3. You inform google that the item has been shipped
4. Google charges the customer's charge card.
5. Google deposits the money into your bank.

Hope this helped!

I'm assuming some kind of DC # or tracking # (UPS) is required as proof of shipment? Looking at it from the buyer's side.
