|
|
Hello everyone, this is Jenny Copson from Product Management. This week we’re launching eBay’s new counter feature, which will replace the existing Andale counters that some sellers have used for the past five years. Counters are an important tool that help both buyers and sellers get a sense of the number of other members who may be interested in the listing.
What to expect
Three styles will be available: basic, retro-computer and hidden. As today, visit counts will start at zero and stop when the listing ends. eBay counters will be an option on new listings and relisted items. Existing Andale counters will not be replaced on current, revised or ended items.
Store Inventory listings with the ”Good ‘Til Cancelled” duration will be updated with the new eBay counters when there have been no visitors for 90 -120 days. For information on using counters in your listing, visit our Help page.
Please note: Sellers who wish to continue to use the Andale counters may do so by visiting the Andale website.
Safety and Security
In addition to this change, we have also formed a partnership with AOL, focused on Safety and Security. The new eBay counters will link to a special page within eBay’s Security & Resolution Center. Together, eBay and AOL will provide a wealth of information about safe behaviors on eBay and across the Internet. Visit the new page on the Security & Resolution Center to see how eBay and AOL are working together to make the Internet safer.
Sincerely,
Jenny Copson

There is a thread on the stores board about counts. Seems that the omniture counts for the stores are rather over-inflated (3-5x) compared to some outside companies counts for the same page and time period.
Is it any wonder that people don't trust E any more ??!!

I only use Ebay Counters on Ebay, the free version, of course! I really like it as you can get stats on what day/time hits (unique and repeat) occur.
The hits are recorded by IP address. I tested this by using my buying ID to inflate the hits and it only showed on the unique hits.
I have recently been implementing the info and my sales have actually increased by having auctions end when most of my hits occur. |

| Probably the only thing keeping them out of hot water is that you can only use them on Ebay. He must be doing something right because he started it in early 2004! I wish he would expand out to other auction sites! |
