I am not up to date on my morning Cookie Crisp law reading, but from some of the details that are coming out is there anyway possible that Ebay is breaking laws? I know that raising fees 500% isnt against the law and im not one of those who sees them doing so as a bad thing.. I am happy they did it, but their recent practices have brought out the lone gunmen conspiracy theorist in me and Im pondering.. Hmmm... (wavy zig zag lines that transfer the view from me pondering to a possible crazy scenario)
Ebay decides that the stores arent doing what they wanted them to do.. Too many people are dumping their useless crap onto them since they are basically free.. Their auction numbers down, yet people dont seem to care to use the auctions because of their fee hike so how can they get back? They decide to screw with the searches for many, BUT not ALL of the stores to lose sales.. Then they come up with this crazy scheme to raise fees.. They also decide to buy back their own stock and to do that they need their prices to drop a little so as to not spend as much buying them back and then they know with the holidays fast approaching even if they lose some people, more than likely they will be back at least for the holidays..
With all of that scheming it seems fishy, but thats what has played out.. We all know that morally its wrong, but preaching morals to Satans wife is like preaching abstinence to Pamela Lee Anderson, Rock (or whatever her name is these dasy).. Is any of it illegal though? Thats the question I have? Is it legal to manipulate the searches just to drive people away (and to raise fees) only to help lowering your stocks enough to buy them back? Would someone with any legal knowledge or opinions about this please respond? |

If that could be proven, an interesting situation would arise. eBay might be liable under California Code for unfair methods of competition and deceptive business practices, Section 1750 I think it is ... is there a Lawyer in the house? |

Interesting! Very interesting.
If only it could be proven. Are they selling any singing canaries at the E??
I'm sure if that is the case, they have paid someone plenty to cover their tracks. |

While screwing up people's lives by messing up search may be morally wrong, I doubt there is anything that can be done about THAT.
But the SEC might be interested in any and all theories about stock price manipulation. Lesser people that eBay have been brought down by the SEC (think Martha among others)
Anyone have any contacts there !!

| Like I said before...smells like a similiar Enron action somehow. Maybe not exactly the same way, but bigwigs selling stock like crazy? They have something up their sleeve an I'll bet it's their leg! |
