|
|
eBay sellers found a creative outlet to vent their frustration over Store fee increases that were announced last week. A search on eBay for the term "fee hike" yielded more than 100 auctions protesting the rate hike, many of them humorous.
One listing stated that the auction for "eBay's ear" is the seller's contribution to restore the magic store sellers seem to have taken from eBay, referring to eBay CEO Meg Whitman's comments to analysts on Wednesday that, "The marketplace has been overwhelmed with identical, often poorly-priced items that have diluted the magic of the eBay experience."
Other items with "fee hike" in the listing title included: a Fog Machine, for "blowing smoke…"; an eBay Stores Fee Hike Official Paddle" (because, "If you have an eBay store, you are UP SHEE-YUT CREEK WITHOUT A PADDLE!"; a scarf to cry in; and even an "eBay Store Burial Plot."

| It's really funny over there and better go look before they're all gone. Disappearing fast only to be replaced by new ones! |

Search Results - Fee Hike
Additional Items in Stores...
Anyone see/notice the new banner on the front page of ebaY about excess inventory and the resellers' marketplace? Has this always been there and I've missed it? Right on the front page?

Thank you for your recent auction-style listing. You listed the following item:
300011033224 - "Home Ain't Home Anymore" 8-track Fee Hike
Unfortunately, eBay removed your listing. All fees related to this listing have been credited to your account. We also notified members who placed bids on the item that the listing has
been canceled.
LOL, I tried! |

Ebay's been through this sort of thing before (X how many?) and is good at cutting off seller's rantings among listed items
Every time ebay hikes it's fees, sellers protest in some sort of way only to keep using the auction site because they DEPEND on ebay's buyer traffic
When the masses decide ebay's not worth the major $$ it cost to list on?
They'll turn to other sources of income--Like most of us have already done :D
Fear not amigos, this will more than likely not be the last hike in fees before the year is out  |

Becky, did ebay really remove your listing? For what, keyword spamming?
My two favorites that are up right now:
send Bill a clue

I am tempted to run a few of my own. Would it warrant a suspension? |

Maybe not a suspension enviro but you'd loose $$ on the listing once they removed it
I personally hate giving ebay any $ and especially if I thought they might remove my listed item: hairballs from Meg  |

| I was thinking about copying that "send Bill a clue" auction. Only I would make it buy it now for .01. I wouldn't be doing it as a scheme to make money. Just an honest attempt to gather massive letters of protest. And hopefully enough buyers would send me letters to have a nice package to send Bill. |

Yep, they pulled it...
The violation occurred when you included the following information in your listing:
Fee Hike
Maybe because I don't have a Store and stated that small sellers should support the protest because our CORE LISTINGS will be the next ones to be hit with a fee hike. |

| Have you guys ever noticed how many sellers have the exact same info on their templates...similar names...EXACT same addresses??? And they are all selling. No NARUs. Isn't it against Ebay policies for sellers to have more than one account? Or dos that only pertain to us little folks? Big companies can do as they please?? |

Wow!. I did'nt know about that one account rule. When eBay was good I had FOUR different names there. I am not a big company, just a small business person( 5' 3" ).
Can I ask a question, NOT out of any ill will or maliciousness. Remember all that discussing we did for about a year re us all here getting behind one particular site? If we had picked a site to support would we be in a better position now? I see lots of sellers leaving eBay but they are scattering all over the many auction sites we have. Would we have much more clout against eBay if their members were leaving for one particular site?
DANG. Just thought of something. Meg would probably buy out that site. |

This must be a second bangle bash auction, because there was one up that last night was up to $157 or something. I guess as long as they don't have the words "fee hike" in them ebay won't take them down, which is nice for that seller.
Yes, apparently "fee hike" auctions are being taken down for so-called spamming  |

| PVH, For Meg to buy it, it would have to be for sale. Of course they could ruin the site with lawsuits, but then the news media would pick it up and ebay would be known for the tyrant that it is. Right now, its just a lot of disgruntled sellers blowing steam at ebay. |
