Ebay sellers are upset that eBay has increased their fees by 50 to 80%
Its an unjustified increase and will put many small businessmen out of business.
But also what sellers don't realise is that the customers they sell to are not their customers but belong to Ebay, so book value is Nil! ZERO on your balance sheet.
But if you owned your own auction site each repeat customer has book value of $100.00
Wow why didn't I know that when I sold over 28,000 items on eBay!
So I started my own auction site and have sold 50,000 items on internet and i own my customer base now . My book value went up $100,000 the day eBay increased its fees!
So why don't you start you own auction site?

Because.........

(A) The online auctioning format is dead in the water these days
unless one really has something rare / unusual / unique to offer.

(B) The web is already swarming with hoards of Ebay wannabes.
The LAST thing needed is more fracturing of the market right
now.

(C) If I were going to put that time and energy into a project I
would just set up my own webstore with only my merchandise
being offered. Why would I want to play host to potentially my
own competition?

Pretty much a no-brainer there.

there too. ebay has something like 90% market penetration in the US, so why bother?

i think one of the problems is that many people dont realize who their competition actually is...which is something ya should finger out before ya even start doing bidness!

Aw common guys... You sound like your throwing in the towel. Microsoft had 90% of the computer business too. And Apple hung in there while Commodore and Atari lost out. (Gawd, I loved "load *,8,1"). Now look at Linux also, its coming along, everyother person uses FF or some other browser. It can be done!

oh, sure. but having worked fer 13 years at a company which thought exactly the same thing, yet couldnt find their butt with a map & a mirror, i'm here to tell ya there are plenty of ways NOT to do it--which is the most important thing to know!

And I was told nearly everyday for 16 years that Vought was the only job there was also. Till I quit. The only thing I miss is the paycheck. But.... I started over again. As long as you keep believing the carp THEY dish out... THEY win.

And not having competition doesn't nescessarily mean success. I was the only general book store in a 30 mile area. And yet bookstores in large metro areas are 3 on a block.
