|
|
I opened a eBay store only 2 days before the fee hike announcement, and although I will probably move my business elsewhere, I won't do so until the 21st.
But while I'm 'playing' with my store, I realized that my 112 FB rating made me eligible for eBay Express. Yet when I checked my settings, I was told that I have to allow Unconfirmed shipping addresses in PayPal, yet PayPal won't protect me as a seller if I ship to an unconfirmed address.
WTF is up with that????!!!
Can someone explain to me the logic, or lack thereof, as to why eBay has this policy that doesn't protect the seller (their customer) over the buyer (my customer)?

LOL... that has about as much consistency as a glass of curdled milk.
This post should be repeated in "Listing all the very questionable things ebays done"...

Um.
Welcome to ebay. Ebay doesn't care about the seller. And No offence but if I were you and you plan to move anyway I would just do it now. That policy as well as the other 149 rules are to make ebay a safe buying place or so they say. Funny I thought hitler was dead!
Anyway your right you won't be protected and if someone buys from you and gets the item and then claims their card was stolen your paypal account will get locked up until its straighted out. which can take forever and if you have people who want to pay ie. auctions end. They will be told you are unavailable to accept payment which will then damage your reputation as a good seller. So. In short ditch ebay and paypal. Get a regular merchant account and a web site and market your site. NO listing fees no final value fees and no bull crap the buyer (who can be frauds too) is ALWAYS RIGHT>
Example. I sold t-shirts one time on ebay. I sent the guy his shirt. He said he did not get it. I sent him another one he still said he did not get it. I sent him a third one he still said he did not get it. Mind you I had proof for all three deliverys but was trying to protect my feedback from any marks. Finally paypal gave the guy his money back too. So I was out 3 shirts that I could of sold for $20.oo ea PLUS the fees and shipping. That ordeal cost me $1oo.00 OBscure. For one $20.00 shirt I lost over $100.00 The guy had no feedback on ebay and his account was later suspended. But I still got ripped off. Seriously the best advise I can give you is to get a merchant account of your own. I did and I have been stress free ever since. And if you don't want to do that look into google buy. Though I did read that they are slow. The merchant account is the way to go though and I honestly think its cheaper. I have mine through
cardservice international/authorize.net for some reason you have to go through a provider to get your authorize.net account not sure why. but its well worth it anyway.
Good luck in what ever you do. |

Well one of the only things would make me even consider continuing with eBay would be for their protection of the sellers. It certainly looks this way on the outside, but the more I use them the more I find these little inconsistencies that don't protect anyone at all...seller or buyer (unless you're from Hong Kong)!
Isn't that what my high fees are for after all?
Oh, that's right, the high fees are to help bring back the 'Magic'...like what $kype does.
So who's gonna be the first to Photoshop Meg as Tinkerbell?

Oh wait No kidding I forgot to tell you this too. When Your paypal account gets locked they don't let you get your money either. So IF they decide that you are not legit ie you don't give them faxed copys of about athousand things that you probably don't have- then all the money in your account becomes property of paypal. Kiss it bye bye.
That's why the merchant account is a good thing. Oh and Oversee's transactions are not covered under paypal either so if you plan to sell over sees (which was lucrative for me) then forget it. You need a tracking number for EVERYTHING. ALWAYS get Insurance and a tracking number for EVERYTHING>Thats the only way you can protect your self. Proof Proof Proof. I have even gone so far as to get tracking and a signature. No joke PayPal SUCKS and EBAY SUCKS too. Seriously move on.
Sorry to sound negative- You used to make good money there. Not anymore. Not with the fee's youll see when you get your bill.
