not sure if this has ever been posted.. but echecks are bad, very bad.

here is the problem.

the patriot act includes identity theft protection on the internet. basically if someone steals your bank account info and goes spending on the internet, you are protected.. you go to your bank and fill out a form, and your money is instantly returned to you.. you also have to file a report with law enforcement.

sounds great..

but what that means is that everyone who received money from your account is screwed.. the bank takes the money back.

with paypal, they will reverse every payment made from the buyers account, over a few month period of time.

so anyone can walk into thier bank and claim identity theft at anytime and screw every ebay seller they bought from over a several week time period.

paypal of course does not ever mention this.. this is what the fraudulent funds chargeback means.. the thing that sucks is that it does not happen until weeks later.

we know because we had a few and called paypal to find out why thier superior fraud prevention was letting this happen.. after a bit we got the right answer

So if you accept PayPal, do you just post, "NO E-Checks" to avoid this? What if someone pays with one anyway? Do you send them the money back and request another method of payment?? If you have already refunded someone because they have sent you an E-Check, I would like to know if they were: 1. Offended 2. Understanding 3. Cancelled the transaction 4. Something else??
Thank you for your post.

If you say no echeck, you can go into the transaction, click on details or the tansaction number itself, I can't remember do a refund. You must do this before the check clears. I know that refund sounds odd, but it will cancel the transaction.

I just had to do this...

You should rephrase the title to this post and say...

Never take paypal. We nearly got screwed by user NJSTEVES trying to do a charge back luckly for us we had delivery confirmation to a confirmed address end of stroy one would think. Then the scumbag, tries one last desperate attempt with his credit card company to do a charge back there, again he failed, shortly after that I limited myself to accepting paypal from known clients and limited their spending to only $200 bucks, that eliminated all the b/s now-a-days if a known client wants to use paypal for over $200 bucks, they must pay the paypal fees, since most of the transactions that I do are done directly thru my own website, and a few limited auctions on Overstock. The funny part about this entire thing is, if user NJSTEVES did not get my coin which is shown as delivery confirmed to his address, you mind telling me how he's offered that very same coin in his eBay store? Makes you wanna go hummmm?

Why does it seem that PayPal is always finding in FAVOR of the Buyers and not the Sellers???
Anyone have any ideas?? Especially when the Sellers have built their reputations and the buyers haven't??
I have found more Sellers with bad stories including myself...

First- There is an option in recieving preferences to block echecks. If you cannot find it, search paypal help.

and I agreee, dump paypal and ebay... selling on ebay without paypal is a waste of time. ebay is marketing against sellers, it is at the point where ebay is telling buyers, if the seller won't take paypal they are going to rip you off.

that is how desperate ebay is to increase paypal's market share.

ebay has been using the scare the buyers marketing slogan since they bought paypal.

when ebay first bought paypal, they agressively marketed paypal to ebay sellers.. but they didn't get the market share that way.. .so they switched tactics to strong arming sellers by having buyers demand that the sellers take paypal.

paypal went to crap 3 months after ebay bought it. before ebay there were clear and simple rules for the seller on paypal. a seller knew exactly how they were protected.

buyers couldn't chargeback a transaction after 7 days, they had to wait 30.

we dropped paypal over a few specific incidents.. because paypal's confirmed address are total bs.. they send an address to a seller, that they have to ship to for protection,,, yet when the address is not valid, the seller gets stuck holding the bag..

Realizing this isn't the newest thread on the planet, but thought I'd add that you can no longer 'deny' a payment if it's related to an ebay auction. Their newest tos actually forces a seller to accept any and all forms of paypal payment. It's their little way of collecting more fees and forcing all the sellers into a corner cuz naturally the buyers adore paypal - it doesn't cost them anything and it sides with them every time!

A. What I just said - but this is not about EBAY per se, this is about Paypal (yes, I realize they're owned by the same company, but you can utilize paypal for things other than ebay auctions. And why is it, can someone tell me, that the moment someone mentions EBAY in a sentence or narrative, there's always a person who immediately spits out an ebay policy and completely misses the point of the anecdote?)

B. What I'm speaking of is the 'accept' or 'deny' option on a credit/debit card payment sent to a personal/free account, which now does not exist. Also, according to Paypal's own Help documents, a person can Cancel a payment that has been Unclaimed. However, according to a recent situation, this is no longer the case, at least not when the payment is made from a credit card.

The result is a money in limbo - in paypal's pocket but not in the pocket of either the sender or receiver of the funds.

Worse, when paypal implemented these changes, they supposedly allowed personal/free accounts the ability to accept up to five credit/debit card payments a year. However, like most alterations to a large program, it did not spread throughout the entire system, leaving some people screwed one more time. (refer to the money in limbo thing)

Hi,its funny about paypal because if I pay a bill through paypal they get it right now but if I send my money to a bank account it takes 3 to 4 bussiness days. I have wondered about that for a long time??? E-You,Later!
